Default Re-map

Hi all,

I've just deceided after months of debating that I'm going to get a re-map. I'm going to use Andy Forrest as I've heard he's one of the best around. I've been told I need a full de-cat and fuel pump, but not sure what else I need. I have a 2005 wrx import (uk spec), and want as much bhp as possible, obviously, but don't want the gearbox etc to crumble under the stress. Can anyone please help on what other mods I need and what performance I can expect.
Much appreciated
Jase.

Lots of options really and costings to match. If you've decided to use Andy your best bet is to ask him what he recomends. Personally on my WRX I went Sportscat(MOT friendly)/decat rear/straight centre/Jap BB/STI panel filter/fuel pump/samco hose set/uprated plugs and made 235WHP which is a nice strong figure that won't be crumbling your gearbox anytime soon.

Agreed with above, speak to Andy. He was very helpful advising me on how to prepare my car before I went to see him. Basically tell him what you are after and he will tell you what you need.

If you want serious power you need to upgrade the turbo, the injectors and the intercooler as well as previously mentioned odds. If you want modest power then decat, fuel pump, plugs and possibly a panel filter...

I think he means power at the wheels as opposed to the fly.

I'd love serious power, but don't want to blow things up, as the wife would start getting on my back about the cost of the repairs.

235/238 ATWheels is a good figure for relatively few/cheap mods. Don't get fixed on peak power though, someone like Andy, or in my case Mocom, will craft you a map that will improve the overall driving experience 100%. If you look at the map graphs in view my scooby you will see how the BHP you do have is made available sooner in the rev range and with added torque available for longer.

Its all in bhp just that one is measured at the actual wheels you drive on rather than the flywheel. So maybe its around 270bhp+ flywheel .... Which is better than a standard STi.

For your Wrx most will recommend as you mentioned but also the STI topmount intercooler as well. after you do all that you should then get your brake pads (as a minimum) changed, if you can afford more get the discs upgraded and then last callipers. Also sort your suspension by minimum get a good wheel alignment and if you can afford more the whiteline rear anti roll bar and Anti Lift Kit (ALK) and last lower the springs (prodrive or eibach) and better suspension.

If you add these stages to the increased bhp and torque that you have. I guarantee you will be very very happy.

i recently got a remap with andy and he recommended the intercooler hose pipes be changed as the oem ones are restrictive.

Only the older STis, hawkeye onwards has 280bhp as standard. Not sure about the blob or the bug.

As stated OP, don't get hung up on power figures. There's a lot more to be gained from a remap.

265 bhp out of the box for bug-eye, it would be hard to notice 10 bhp in the real world....

IMHO
