Question

Hi,

A friend of mine without internet access has asked me post this question on the fourm regarding his Evo 6 Does anyone know how he would go about re-mapping the ecu from 100 Ron to 95 Ron?

He would also like to know if it easier to re-map the Evo’s Ecu to 97 Ron?

I know that the above questions have been asked with regard to an Impreza Turbo, to disconnect the battery and fill the tank with 97 Ron but I am not sure if it is the same for an Evo

Thanks,
Osama.

Power engineering advertise a 95ron remap. The only car I know of that had it done was featured in EVO magazines fast fleet. Unfortunately the engine let go, but the cause was unknown. The car was sold shortly after a rebuild, and wasn't in the magazine afterwards.

Chuck,

Thanks for the information , do you know anything more about the actual re-map itself?

Please let me know which issue of Evo was the car featured in if you can

Tim Milnes evo 6 rs. I was going for a long time.

It really angered me and prompted me to write to evo, as they always commented on how good power engineering had been on their car.

I then heard rumours that the car had actually blown up, and a trip to power engineering confirmed this when the car was there in the flesh.

and the confirmed rumours predated the official "story" from the magazine that the engine sounded tappety so it was a good excuse to go internal.

hhhmmmmmmm bollocks!

I was very angry at this, because readers had right to know the truth at this point yet for some reason this feeble excuse for the rebuild given above was all that was published.

needeless to say evo never replied to my letter. But i know it was read as a freind of mine was asked if he knew my name when he met the evo team.

Osama,

The EVO ECU does not need remapped to run 97 ron. It will happily run this every day no problem at all. It is not recommended to run any of the EVOs on 95, unless in an emergency and even then octane booster should be used and dont rev the engine hard. In my mind you would only get the EVO ECU remapped for 95 if you were unlucky to live far away from a garage that can supply 97.

Dont just take my advice, go to the Mitsubishi Lancer Register (www.lancerregister.com) and ask!

Power Engineering are the only outfit that can remap the EVO ECU to run on 95ron. They also map for 97 and Optimax-98. Loads of EVO owners have gone down this route and in the past 2 years I have been on the MLR (own an EVO 5) I have never heard of PE 'blowing a single engine'. http://www.powerengineering.co.uk

MLR & Scoobynet Member (I am not connected to PE in any way)

Spanpody isnt, i can vouch(sp??) for that

I have the P.E. 97 re-map, and on the 11th June i`m taking the car to be remapped to 98 ron so that i can run higher boost.I dont know of the "Evo" story(never bought the magazine), so i`m not going to even go there, but one of the MLR members, "Evoboy" uses the PE 95 remap, and has had no problems at all, to the point he recommends it! Evoboy runs his own buisness tuning and modifying Evo`s, so he certainly knows what he`s talking about too.

Cost wise you are looking at £1k to modify the ECU, and i`ve just been quoted £125ish for the new map programmed to suit my car on their rolling road.

Rich.

jesus christ.

just because you havent heard of failures doesnt mean they dont occur.

All I can say is buyer beware.

The evo story just goes to show how cover ups occur, that was the whole point.

and just because someone runs a company which sells bits for cars and "tunes" them, does not mean they know what they are talkign about.

I could open a shop tomorrow and have enough money to trade long enough to establush a reputation that I am staying afloat. It does not mean I know the first thing about tuning evos!

Lots of people had a pe phase 1 on an impreza and they were fine, but then lots of people then tested their phase 1s on a knocklink and found the cars to be detting all over the place, including bob rawle.

this does not mean because bobs car didnt blow that it was ok.

As it so happens, I believe merv does all the mapping at pe now, and I am actually very confident in his ability to produce safely mapped cars.

Adam, Evoboy is one of the most knowledgeable memebers of the MLR, and as such i feel your post is nothing short of an insult to him (and possibly me for that matter).

Thanks.
