Default Hello all! Newbie alert!

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum as my dad is planning to buy an X reg Imprea Turbo wagon at the end of the week and this site will no doubt be very handy for help etc in the future!

Just a couple of questions..... The car is at 63,000 miles at present, we havnt checked if the cambelt has been done, but what mileage/age is it recommended you change this and all the pulleys, tensioners etc?

What are the main things to look out for on them? We have had a look round it and test driven it and all seemed fine, but would be handy to know particular things to look out for!

Cheers for any help, and sorry if you get asked the same questions all the time by newbies

Nick.

I have a feeling its around the 60k mark they need to be changed, you should be looking for full service history, the more standard the better, check underneath the car for any oil leaks, look either side of the engine. listen for any weird noises near the rear diff, listen to the engine from cold and listen for any knocking noises and funny coloured smoke.

hth

and welcome

Welcome

As Shaggy 1973 said check out the Service History and accompanying paper-work, which should be able to tell you the latest service which was carried out.

Yes cambelt for my 2000 UK classic was at 60K, although I had mine done at 45K.

Only things that went wrong in nearly 50K miles all done under warranty:
Rear dif seal replaced.
Window regulator replaced due to scratched glass.
Couple of clutches, the last being the modified flexi-flywheel version which finally cured the judder.

Oh and welcome to Scoobynet

I would just get the cambelt done anyway mate, as a precaution. Relatively little cost; compared to what it could be if it went!!

Old topic but bringing it back to life as 4 years and almost 70k miles down the line I have bought it from my dad!

Plan is to slowly add aftermarket parts, starting with the usual exhaust/fmic/turbo etc and eventually have as a car for the weekend/track days.
