1) My lights never turn off unless I turn 'em off. Always gettin'
flashed by other road users, 'specially if I've got the fogs on.
Never manage to knock 'em off when indicating, try being more
gentle!
2) Dunno, hasn't been that cold yet - not at the time I get out of
bed anyway....
3) Haven't noticed it, clutch is heavy and quick shift doesn't
seem to help any...
4) Who listens to Short wave?
5) My aircon, like Tiggs is sweeter than the morning dew. Good
point by MattW tho' how much does the aircon affect the fuel
consumption? On a car that does 20 to the gallon I can't
believe it would make that much difference?
Got one of my own tho' - anyone else think the ABS is a bit on the keen side? Especially on bumpy surfaces. I've had more than a couple of heart atacks in the wet when the brakes just seem to turn off rather than lock!!! I think I'd rather take my chances with the slide than have no brakes....
Sorry about the double post by the way - a bit new at all this web forum stuff, easier for you youngsters, didn't have e-mail when I was a lad......

Hi all,
The WRX is a superb package even in standard form and IMHO the best value considering UK weather conditions, so no one should be discouraged from reading some of the comments on the forum.
Points I feel worth mentioning are :
- ABS is defiantly a bit too keen for my tastes, wet roads don't help either !
- Slight hesitation at 3000 rpm in 4th/5th when accelerating hard
- Under heavy braking the car feels unsettled and not sure footed
- Annoying rattle from passenger door/under dash ( could be heat shield )
Hopefully some of the above will be sorted out by the upcoming SS complete exhaust/ITG and TSL Eibach kit/Alignment
Drove a PPP dealer demo on Saturday, but whilst it is a polished product. I do feel £1695 is stretching concept of value for money (ECU=chip, back box, intercooler hoses) I think £1200 is nearer the mark, Prodrive please take note - Everyone would have it done at the next service at that price.

1) I've accidental turned the beams on before, twice.
2) Yes -1 (damn Chris beat me), near Hull
3) None at all
4) Radio? I hardly even turn the thing on... there is an engine and exhaust to listen to!
5) Air con smells fine, although if using it in heavy rain it can become humid. The I need to remember the setting for sorting that out!

I'd like to ask fellow MY01 owners
1) Coming up to sunrise, in bad weather or coming up to sunset, when using lights have you found they've switched off without you switching them off?
I have discovered that I can (and frequently do) inadvertantly knock the lights off when I indicate.
2) Can the outside temp display drop below 0 degrees? I've never seen it lower.
3) Clutch judder compared to MY00 better or worse or same?
Mine is less frequent but still there.
4) What happened to short wave radio. This is a Japanese car how can I listen to Tokyo Rose with AM/FM and a CD player?
5) Does your aircon make the car smell of damp when it first comes on? My wife's Golf doesn't.
And apart from that what have the Romans ever done for us?

1) Nope - Don't bother indicating
2) If it has n't dropped below 0 in your part of the world, it ain't likely to have done so down here.
3) Can't comapare - never had a <MY00 - however I can vouch it is still there especially when cold.
4) Got a replacement Head unit so no problem. My favourite is Radio 5 Live and my previous Seat Leon had no Med Wave, and an FM only aeriel.
5) What? You mean you actually use the aircon considering the fuel consumption a scooby returns.
Romans - Nice straight roads

1. Has happened on occasion, not really caused me a problem.
2. never seen it below zero, but would seriously question the accuracy.
3. Less frequent and less harsh, but still there.
4. Never used short wave so don't miss it.
5. Air con smells fine.

1) Nope, no probs with lights. I don't think they are as bad as the frequent posts say either.
2) Can't recall, might have.
3) Didn't have a MY00 so can't compare but am getting it when engine cold.
4) Who listens to SW radio???!!!
5) Aircon - no problems.
To add another my paint badly chipped after just 10mths and 14k miles. Much worse than my Rover 600 which I did 80k in. I wash & wax it every week too.

totally agree about the keeness of the ABS. had a my97 and it had similar problems.
my opinion, rightly or wrongly, is that on bumpy wet and dry surfaces I think I would prefer no ABS because as soon as the wheel leaves the ground the wheel locks (stops rotating) for a millisecond, the ABS comes on, unbrakes and once back down on the ground takes time to apply braking again. this is I think checked many times a second though. although this happens extremely quickly it is disconserting to say the least and gives you the feeling that it is not braking as much as it should.
whereas on non ABS, it will lock when the wheel leaves the ground, but once back it will either unlock (ie grip between tyre and road greater than braking force locking the wheel up) or still keep locked, but at least will be slowing down the car (okay probably not in very wet weather or snowy conditions) up until you release presure on the pedal.
but on smooth surfaces where the wheels would be in constant grip with the road I prefer ABS and have steering input available, not unsteerable locked wheels.
anybody any thoughts ?

a) Nope, never done that.
b) I had just scraped ice off the windscreen, started it up, temp gauge said it was 12 degrees outside. It lied to me, I know.
c) Yeah it judders, not enough to wind me up though.
d) No idea and can't be ar5ed to check.
e) No nasty aircon smells, however the milk that spilt in the boot 2 months ago is still a bit tart.

1) No, never
2) Living in the south we don't seem get freezing weather much, although the guage seems to be fairly accurate.
3) Only really when cold, but not too bad, although this is my first scooby so I've nothing to compare with.
4) Hmm, shortwave radio - not much call for it I'm afraid.
5) Air con seems to be fine, although it does dry my contact lenses out!

Er, not criticism, Rich1, did you read any of this? Agree about the ABS, it has always been too keen, was on the MY00 too.
Thanks, you all lead blessed lives.
The car will lock itself after 1 min, if the circuit hasn't been broken after it was unlocked, ie a door hasn't been opened.
Jolly annoying if you are the owner faffing around in your garage, but super if you forgot to lock it or the kids are playing with the remote.
A condition of Thatcham cat 1 I think.

Unless I'm very much mistaken you can turn the auto locking off using the keypad.
You can also set the doors to lock themselves when you turn the ignition (anti-hijack).
I thought that was a good idea until I remembered that I park next to a wall and have to unlock the doors again for a passenger to get in after I have moved the car...

Barry...I don't have any of the problems you describe, but I have just got a gearbox whine at 70 - 75mph. You can hear it above the radio so its not insignificant, or a "feature" of the car!
Dealer will fix in January, but it is a bit worrying, as I don't drive the car particularly hard ....er, some of the time
Cheers,
Richie

regarding the air con, i've noticed that if you have a strong blast of really cold air from it, then turn off and get out, when you come back to the car and turn it on it briefly blows saturated air on the screen causing it to instantly steam up.
I presume that this is due to condensation inside the cold bits of the aircon, which are then blown out.
I tend to turn air con off half a mile before i get home, then the air blowing through the system warms up the air con unit a little and prevents the problem from happening.
Regarding clutch judder, I started getting this 1000 miles ago, at 9000. its occasional, and feels like you've got a racing clutch. the irritating thing is that if you try and ignore it and drive enthusiastically anyway, you burn loads of friction material off. and the smell isn't one of life's luxuries.
