5K will get a good UK example with reasonable mileage.
be careful if you get an import, a lot go and have gone pop although the STI's are reputedly to have a stronger block.
A standard UK 2000 Turbo runs about 215-220bhp but an exhaust, filter and remap will see this push closer to 270-280 bhp'ish this is the limit as theses come with the TD04 turbo which is smaller but spools up quicker and tbh makes a really nice fast point to point car.
earlier imports had the TD05 turbo and you can get a bit more out of them.
beware though once you start modding you cant stop.
Mine was bought for 7k - it now stand me at 13k

Hi fellow RST owner!!! Hey, I wont slate you, use to have a Series 2 a few years ago, totally standard but still cost me the price of a small carribean island to keep it going................ 1st week after buying it - Bottom end, then gearbox, then turbo............ then sold it!!!
