I seem to remember trying them and it took them a week to come back with a quote which was too late so I did not bother to look.

Just as well I didnt by the look of yours!

a friend of mine got a really good quick quote - it then doubled when going for the full quote!

although no details actually changed, main things were the same

address
age
ncd
vehicle details

so exactly what caused the premimum to rise 100% I have no idea.

Yes the quick quote on www.elephant.co.uk has absolutely nothing to do with the amount they require once you have done a full quote.

All correct of course, but I got a good quote from them. As per usual the black art of car insurance weaves its magic once again.

Yeah - I use elephant as they were the cheapest - the only people who came close were Admiral, which as far as I can tell are the same people. Wierd stuff, car insurance.

Elephant.co.uk must mean that you get a quote the size of an elephant. In which case there should be a site called mouse.co.uk for small insurance premiums

hmm,

well insurance is a black art, my highest quote do date has £14k!!! on a policy which currently costs less than a tenth of that! The thing is when you rang someone up they would just decline to quote if they had a stupid quote, but on the net they often just quote a sky high price instead!

Elephant where 300 quid cheaper for me than Admiral (strange as they are the same company) These where both less than half any other quote. The whole game pisses me off immensley

I use Cheam (brokers) to find me good policies.. often offering policies which let me use the same NCD across all my cars (assuming all policies are with the same insurance company)

http://www.cheam.co.uk/

Mark Abbott is the kiddie to speak to.

My Impreza insurance went DOWN by £400 with them last year, and my Exige insurance went DOWN by £2000 with them also.

On a slightly more serious note from my suggestions of mouse.co.uk, I've used ATS (www.atsinsurance.co.uk - 0870 6000 080). Recently Subaru have changed contracts from Privilege to this crap company called Marsh. Well Marsh are really **** and loads of customers have complained to Subaru saying that they're getting some crap quotes. One of the guys at ATS told me that they used to provide Privilege with the quotes for the Scoobs until Subaru changed it. Well, ATS gave me a quote for £696 for Group 20 McRae and £800 for P1. Also try Adrian Flux - they matched the £696 for my McRae and would be prepared to match the £800 for the P1. Both cars are rated Group 20.

I also tried the NFU as they provide cover for 4WD vehicles. But they refused to quote me for either car.

guys - you are sooooo lucky. I've been shopping around for insurance for the 'minger.' I use a 1100 Pug 106 to deal with rush hour. Cheapest quote so far is 600 quid I think this is reasonable, given 5k to insure a scoob and 2k for a beamer 525

I phoned everywhere for a quote, I found that Priveledge & Tesco's where quite cheap but the best I got was with AXA DIRECT, but they only take people with no convictions (lUCKY ME).

Mine was £914 Fully Comp & Protected

IM 25 with full no claims.

My first quote was £1800 from Performance Direct (CRAP)

Just thought i'd let you know.

SCOBY

p.s that was on a TERZO

Question

I was under the impression that Elephant were part of the same group as Admiral and Bell Direct. After receiving my renewal from Bell Direct, I tried Elephant - the quote was exactly the same to the penny!
Every subsequent attempt - I was trying to see the impact of removing named drivers and increasing the excess - returned a larger figure.
