Alright,

They don't like widnow tints much - you need to add the mods by phone as they won't take them (although they list them) online.

1 year with elephant and now with Admiral (same group).

I think it worked out at 5% load for exhaust but 10% for tints - SEPERATE front and back load I may add - that is 10% for the back only!!!

Generally will take any mods you put on but I doubt they would like engine swaps, 2.5 transplant etc?

Brian.

Cheers,

I'm not after pimp tints so thats ok.

They don't sound too bad, i'll give them a call in a couple of days once i see what i can afford.

I already have a sti panel filter, would that need to be declared as a mod?
and what about dump valves are they considered a mod?

Panel filter = service component - I would only say if it was an induction kit. - I MAY BE WRONG.

Dump valve = Yes they consider that a mod.

My brother works for eSure group and he says they won't insure cars with engine or exhaust mods for example and even class a sticker as a modification.

Elephant claims service is good too - quick and they keep you updated and my no claims was back with me the day of the pay-out from the third party.

If you get a good price, the only downside to taking their insurance is a POOR quality Indian call centre.

UK staff deal with some sales and cancellations, daytime stuff etc. Night time, weekends - forget it - phone them on Monday as I have experienced many times.

BTW Admiral are the same, call centre, address everything.

Thanks for all your help,

This is my 2nd year with elephant, they've been really good apart from as you say the call centre, bit of a language barrier sometimes, had problems with the registration, had it sent through a couple of times to me wrong, so just changed it on the website in the end.

Yeah i agree the panel filters a service component

I'm just after exhaust and poss dump valve mod if i got money left over at the moment.

I'll take your word on the claims department, i'm hoping not to find out first hand, expecially after the agro I had with my previous insurance company, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole after all their hassle.

Cheers for the help,
Spanky.

I believe they invalidate the Alarm/Immobiliser Thatcham certification....as to panel filter, would you think of uprated discs/pads as service items? Or even exhaust come to that (if it had not lasted the life of the car that too could be a service item). Guess it's a case of where you stop and what risk you want to take. Since Direct Line wanted to charge me for adding gauges, I declare everything now (oh and I'm not with DL anymore )

Trashman - brake pads etc I would certainly class as a service component. Exhausts no as they are visible (ie more attractive to thieves) etc.

The preimum/risk is not only about performance it is about visible stuff, a theives impressions, cost to repair or replce in an accident if the insurer pay out etc etc.

Valid point about all declarations though.

I best just have a word with them and see what they've got to say, i.e. how reasonable they are gonna be.

Good point - hadn't thought of it that way. But as above, I declare everything - if they charge then fine, if not great

Admiral are the same, cover mods but won't replace them if you have acrash and they get damaged, etc.

Admiral have given me my best quote so far, might be worth a look.

Default Strut brace

Elephant will not insure if you have strut braces added (or any suspension mods)

What if it comes standard with a strut brace?

I'm insured with elephant and i wont be doing so next year, they charged me 400 quid for 3 points on my licence. also don't try to get insured with them if you have more than a 30 day ban cos they wont do it.
