Default Newbie..........can anyone assist ?

Hello to everyone on Scoobynet. I`m a prospective buyer of my first Scoob, and intend to buy a standard WRX. I know this can get very boring, but if anyone would care to oblige with some answers to my questions, I would be eternally grateful. Here goes......

1. I have a budget of around 12k, so would I be better to buy a UK spec, or an import (I do intend to buy from a dealer only)

2. Can they be run on standard unleaded, or does it have to be Optimax, etc.

3. How much does a service generally cost, and am I right in thinking that there is a mega-expensive one around the 36k mark

If you`ve not dropped dead of boredom by now, with the usual "newbie" questions, then any replies would be appreciated. Ta.....

UK spec is more insurance friendly

Question for you why by just from a dealer ? there are loads of excellent cars on here for 12k and you will prob get a better deal as 99.9%, dealers have overheads don't forget.

UK spec either, Import Optimax all the time

If ur worrying already about the bills don't buy a scoob cos when you start with the mods, the skies the limit m8

Thanks Dazza, food for thought there.........I mentioned the servicing because I`ve read somewhere that the one at 36k costs around £600. Is that right ?

Sounds like big bucks then. Just to fill you in Dazza, I`ve got a Civic type R at the moment, but I drove a standard WRX the other day, and I thought the acceleration was miles better in the Scoob. Second gear is an absolute killer, and I loved it. Only slight disappointment was on the Motorway, doing around 70 (honest), in fifth, and when I put my foot down, the power was very slow to come in. Obviously I was at low revs at that point, but it did make me think that I would have to change down if I wanted to get a move on. Surprisingly, you can leave the Civic in sixth at that speed, and it still pulls better. Any thoughts.........?

The way prices are at the moment 12k should get you a nice UK late bugeye 02/52 or '03 WRX (that's the new shape blobeye one). They generally tend to be driven hard, but very well looked after and have very few faults. Servicing is expensive at main dealers, but there's plenty of specialists out there where much can be saved, without affecting the warranty. Avoid anything nearing 30k miles as that's quite a big service on the new cars, better to get one with 31k that some other poor sap has paid for the big service. Next biggie I believe is around 60k. You can use normal U/L in UK cars, but 'Max/SUL is better. Don't believe yourself when you say you won't modify it, YOU WILL. The standard twin peashooter exhaust robs the car of it's characterful burble, and once you get bitten by that bug there's no cure Try to test drive a car with the PPP fitted and you will see what the car is supposed to be like before EU emmisions and noise regs rob it of all its charm (and power), but be prepared to want a PPP sooner rather than later.

One of the best places for info is to check out your local region in the Events area and try to get along to some local meets. You'll meet loads of great folk who will be able to give you good advise. Just be prepared to see some awesome machines and want them all

With a standard UK WRX it will happily run on normal unleaded. Folk will tell you optimax will make it more responsive etc etc, but i can't tell any difference at all.
