As I have never done a trackday or airfield day I have heard you can pickup a lot of stonechips on the front end of the car is this the case?

I would of thought that you only get slightly more stone chips on track days than everyday motorway driving, unless you plough in to the gravel trap or the guy in front does!!
You certainly end up with more brake dust on the wheels than you can shake a stick at and the possibility of burning some of your rear bumper paint off if you cars privy to a bit of flame action on lift off.

Do think I will be able to limp home to get a new set fitted the next day or shall I order a set and fit them for the way home?
Jo Peters said that this Air field wasn't so bad on tyre wear as others are,I think they rotate the track direction at the mid way point so you get even tyre wear (unless this was another track day..DOH!)

Ian,
Yes, when they receive the cheque they update you from 'provisional' to 'confirmed' on the web site and send you an email with the subject: Confirmation for Scoobynet Airfield Day (24/7/2000)
Rich.

I'm in too... what are you guys doing about tyres? I can get hold of 205/50s at £45 each, hard compound, which should do me a few track days, as I don't want to kill my normal road tyres! Also are any of you looking at upgrading brakes?
Cheers

Richard,
I will be bringing my old 16" MY00 wheels along with slicks. Would have prefered not to have the hassle and just used some part worns on the 17"s but I don't think they have a tyre fitting van there all day (didn't last time - I think they just had a van that delivered tyres in the afternoon). I might give them a call and ask.
Have upgraded the brakes since the last time to APs - tried them out at Cadwell and they were awesome
Rich.

It was this one that was mentioned as not being too bad on tyre wear. I certainly hope so!
I think I'm going to get the cheap hard compound tyres, and get them put on locally before and after the track day.

Hi Guys
Tyre wear at Abingdon is not so bad but I think that SO2's would suffer. We did a whole day there in May on a really cheap set of hard compound tyres and we'll actually be able to get our next day (7th July) out of them as well although they probably won't get us home. If you're at all worried, pre-book some tyres from the Easytrack guys - don't know what the prices are like and the tyrefitter didn't arrive until the afternoon last time.
Rich_R - you sneak ... slicks ehh ... there won't be any detours across the greenery this time then If all goes well, we should be on slicks there as well
As for the safety aspect. We took a spare set of wheels last time and left them along with toolbox etc. at the side of the "pit" area where they were quite safe. Remember it's held at an MOD airfield and they are quite strict on who gets in and who doesn't.
Jake - as there are still some people who haven't paid, it might be worth e-mailing Jonny or Marcus to see if you can be put in place of one of them.
As for the Puma guy - he apparently wants to buy a Scoob and is hoping to cadge a ride with someone (unless he's an Evo 6 in disguise !!!) Don't know about the Mondeo guy - must be desperate !!!
I've also heard from Jonny and there will not be a change of direction because of a high bank to the left at the end of the first straight, which, if going the other way round you would be heading straight for at high speed so they are unable to offer two directions. Therefore, it might be an idea to change your wheels round at lunch time (1pm) to even out the tyre wear.
See you all there
Jo

Mr Cookie
E-mail Jonny or Marcus at Easytrack - the next date is this Friday 7th July at Abingdon. They will probably be OK about you watching .... or you could come along and spectate at the Scooby day on 24th July at the same venue!
