Default Stone chips - help!

Any advice/feedback on the issue of stonechipped paintwork please.

I've starting to get quite a number of stone chips on my MY03. I know the paintwork isn't a scoobys' strongest point, but it's getting beyhond a joke.

It's possibly due to the amount of B-class road driving it does, but I've never owned a car which sheds paint like this.

One of the chips on the passenger side roof pillar looks like it is starting to rust....

What should I do? Is it worth getting the chips touched up (by who?) or should I just leave it and accept the fact I'm going to have to get the front end of the car totally respayed in a few years time - what a bl**dy joke :-(

Short of keeping it in the garage and never driving it, I can't see a solution to stopping the stonechips?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris.

Chips away do a pretty decent job. You defo want to sort the ones that are gonna rust before they get worse and the paint around the chip starts to bubble.

Anyone here used ChipsAway? Any feedback on quality and durability of their repair work? What kind of cost is involved in getting 10 - 12 stone chips repaired, with 3 or 4 of them being fairly large?

I used chips away to repair a couple of chips on my bumber and a few bumper scratches (Not scooby but focus). The work was excellent and I could not tell anything had been done. They charged me about £90.

stone chips on the front is due mainly to driving too close to the vehicle in front
keeping your distance helps

personally i just use touch up paint and an artists brush to fill in any chips

not perfect but a big improvement

Thumbs up

Stick Armourfend on, I did it last week.

Job Done, never another chip.

Takes the hassle out of constant resparys.

Thanks for the feedback.

Kamikaze, I normally hang well back from other vehicles for that reason. I suspect most of mine are caused when I'm driving down B roads and another vehicle comes in the opposite direction, spits a few stones up into my path which then end up on my bonnet.

Slowing down a bit would probably help as well, but that wouldn't really be on would it :-)

Nevetas,

How does the Armourfend look? Can you see it's been applied (I guess you must be able to see a line at the end of the film strip) ?

Did you buy a kit or just a straight length 'off the roll'?

Thanks,

doubt the chips are from cars going the other way as surely the damage would be mainly on the drivers side, whereas you say passenger side is fcked.
also you would get chips at the back rather than front

have sen armourfend on a few cars
personally im not very impressed
the join is obvious especially when dirty
the stuff isnt cheap as well

the side of my second car has a small bit of armourfend as standard down the lower side
part of it has been torn by a small stone
so this looks just as bad as a paint chip

guess littleknocks or a front end respray are the ways forward
with enough coats of lacquer it should be beter than the factopry paintjob

The bad chip on the passenger side was from a car I was ahemm 'following' - a BMW M5 going down the A1M. I heard the stone when it hit the car with a bang! I'm was suprised it only scratched the paint and was expecting a dent.

The rest are mainly along the leading edge of the bonnet.

Sounds like I need a visit from ChipsAway.

Only join you can see on mine is on the bonnet, and you can only see it if staring direct at the bonnet. Looks a whole lot better than stone chips.

You have to have it applied proffesionally and at about £300-£400 isn't that much.

Remember it also does the side seals (cant see this atall) inner wheel arches, inner door handles.

Pic attached

Respraying all the items above every single time you get a chip will start to get expensive...
