What do you mean by "horrible"? If it smells like dog fart, it's hydrogen sulphides being produced by the catalyst.

explore.
I am in the same situation, my 03 wrx is now three weeks old and has over 750 miles on the clock. The smell you are on about has now disappeared even when its parked in the garage.

I think the smell is from the exhaust and manifold, but I must admit that my 01 Wagon never stunk like that when it was brand new.

The clutches on these cars (new age) do smell a bit as well, especially if you have to slip it a bit.

Its the protective green wax the factory spray on the Aluminium engine/gearbox parts. As it gets hot it softens and produces the odd smell you mean.

I quite like it! - it reminds you that you have a new car!

Doubt it. Last time I found one of those on my car, it (well, bits of fur and blood) were up inside the wheelarch, nowhere near the exhaust.
