Welcome Ding Dong
Well at the very least you will be looking at 2 services a year (7.5k or 6 month which ever is first) you will have to find a Subaru Speciallist as Subaru UK wont touch your car, you WILL need to run your car on a MINIMUM of Super unleaded fuel or Optimax (and the possibility of octane booster too) and higher insurance than a similar UK model car.
For the money that you have id expect you to be in the MY93 bracket for a WRX, this means that the car will be ready for its 45k service (unless the owner has had it done already) and its not the cheapest of services (can cost around 4-500 quid dependant on what needs doing) an MY94 will still need its next service as it may be a 30k service (around 300 quid) or if your lucky and its had that then its an intermediate which is basically an oil change (less than 100 quid but your next one's going to be the 45k service so 6 months down the line your looking at 4-500 quid)
This is the cost of Subaru ownership, if you skip on these services you may as well throw your money down the drain (45k service is cambelt, 30k is all the fluids etc).

There are loads of nice examples for that price, get the lowest milage possible with the most history and one that has been looked after with no corners cut on the servicing etc......

£6500 - 7000 ?
Well, Tamiya do a great WRX WRC replica car at 1/12 scale petrol driven remote control for £300, then you could have your driveway laid with smooth tarmac for it to run on with the change

Welcome. People don't always mean things on here the way they sound. Look out for the smiles.
Amyway, have a good look through the for sale forum on here - should give you some ideas.

Must admit I got the wrong end of the stick bearing in mind recent posts re. MY2001/02's. Sorry m8. Whatever you've got, if you end up with a Scooby, you won't regret it!

Stick to a 1 owner, UK spec., UN-Modded one with SILVER wheels and FULL Subaru SH and you wont go far wrong!!
DONT buy a Jap or EU Import, dont even THINK about a 'Cheap' one OR one thats been hacked around a track!!
Good Luck - plenty of PROPER ones about at £7000

And the fact that you cant get spares, cant get it serviced properly, has a dodgy history, is probably nicked, needs expensive petrol, is unsaleable .............. other than that its fine!!

Go for a Jap import. You get more power for the price that you're paying. The only downside to it is that you won't be able to get service from a UK dealer but they're expensive anyway and there loads of reputated jap import tuners that would do it for you. Oh and the insurance might cost a bit more than a UK version but in the end I think it all cancels out.

Funny, thats EXACTLY what I've got!! (Not Jap, UK unmodded '99 ref. pslewis) Could have had a modded one, but decided to 'play safe', mainly due to the insurance, stretching budget etc. Now I want to mod it! Starting with a quickshift.

Insurance:
Unmodded UK '99 = £1400 full no-claims (Norwich Union & Tescos)
Same, but with Performance pack = £1800 quoted (Tescos, NU weren't interested in mods (or Type Civic 'R's!?!). O'h yeh I'm 29.

No problem getting spares just read this site and find out who can supply you with anything you need for the scoob, how long have you been on here Pete .
Servicing: specialist servicing who only service impreza turbos so they know what they are doing .
Dodgy history, havent we all . Mine had all the import paperwork, full DOT SVA, and 10 miles on the clock .
Oh they all need expensive petrol, as petrol is expensive, yiou do run on Optimax surely oh and a bottle of millers per fill up so that an extra £2.50 per 60 litres .
Mine is unsaleable , as its not for sale .

£735, the wife and i, fully protected, recovery etc, egg!
p.s. Jap imports are far superior than uk spec, and main uk dealers are robbers, i'm lucky, got a garage down the road that imports wrx and above to sell, and to turn into rally cars. them lads know what theyre on about. thats what you need to find, dingdong!

I know this is not the For Sale forum; but I can help you if you want...
Reading all the sensible above posts from the scooby community I would say that I have got the perfect answer.
I have got a Jap WRX Sti for around £6800 but I believe the market value may me around £8 - 8.5k. The reason for the reduction in price is because I want a quick sale and am in the need of some money.
Here is the spec: N Reg 1996 around 49,500 miles, metallic purple, twin adjustable rear spoiler, tommyicara front bumper (looks awesome), 16" alloys, dump valve, front engine brace and a special after market exhuast that has the amazing scooby growl. Inside it has guages along the drivers side door (on the edge), alcantera upholstry (grey and charcoal colour) and sport pedals.
Let me know if you need to know anything else... because it is great value for money and I would know it is going to a good home and not some spotty kid down the road who would trash it in a brick wall!!!

Why is it that every scooby owners here (including me) only want to sell their car to a good owner? For those who's sold theirs already, do you still have dreams about your car? I've been getting this recurring dream where my car was p*ssed off with me for getting rid of her.
