Default Power steering issue

Morning all quick question. I have a 04 plate UK blobeye WRX/STI. A few weeks ago had a issue with the power steering so topped up the fluid as it was low and all was good then last night coming home steering went heavy and started squealing (like a knackered fan belt) checked fluid levels this morning all fine but steering is hard to turn and the battery and handbrake lights are flickering when turning the steering so any ideas what could be wrong. Thanks in advance

Sounds like the belt tensioner needs tightening ?

I’m pretty sure that will solve it. Especially being lights were flickering as I think it’s also connected to alternator intact I thing the tensioner is on the alternator.

Might be worth going down the new belt route while your there. Never had any issues with the classic models only newage weirdly.

For the sake of a few quid, I'd replace the 0 ring and flush the fluid

The top pipe where the O ring is goes hard and can leak , as above change the O ring , and the fluid , just check belt tension and tighten a bit , 👍

Thanks for the Advice guys. The problem is sorted. I changed the o ring, tightened the belt which was really loose, changed the fluid and all is good now.

Great always make sure you have the right belt aswell, I bought one from ICP and it was way tighter than the one I had on, so much so it wouldn't go on easy.

I told them, they assured me it was the right belt and gave me some tips on fitting. Once I was sure it was the correct belt, used tip they said and abit off force and went on.

All the other belts I've had on other Impreza's went on very easy, which makes me think they weren't the right belt. Belt stopped slipping now sorted.
