Default power steering

my car has developed a problem with the power steering, on idle the steering is really heavy and seems unassisted but as soon as you rev the car its fine. any help would appreciated.

slack belt , or pumps about gubbed , are you leaking fluid anywhere - steering rack/ lines

Its not losing any fluid, but sounds like a good idea to check the belt and pump.
