Default Coilovers wanted- widetrack blob

Hi guys, I'm back in a Subaru !
06 blobeye STI widetrack

The BC coilovers in it at the min are terrible on our roads. I tried softening them 1st but they are at the softest setting already. Think they're done as they're a good age.
Front left is creaking on full lock so presume top mount.

Anyone any links for me to decide on what to get ? My knowledge of model codes has never been great, it's an 06 sti widetrack (blobeye) but most sites say GDB or GDA and that sort of thing. . . . . .what is the one I'm looking?

I've had BCs before (ford focus, bugeye) and Tein in my Hatchback STI recently and never had any bother.

Go with the Android head unit then download the BTSSM app plug a vagcom cable into your usb port on the stereo and onto the OBD connector and then you've all your OBD

outputs on the screen.

I went from pedders to tein flex z and its night and day. I had 3 sets of pedders under warranty cos of top mount issues and I'd never ever advise anyone going that route. The teins are firm but not back breaking or crashy.

what about just standard suspension? Can it still be bought ? I'm really worried about having to avoid every bump in the road. After the test drive getting into the standard R32 was like being in a limo !

Nah, it's pretty good for that tbh. Better than the pedders were

I *think* there's now a way of making the Koni inserts fit the widetrack strut bodies but not 100%. Failing that 2Pot was also in the process of creating his own inserts from Bilstein which should work. It may be worth holding out for those if you're after struts and springs.

No not really you just have to be careful that it is one that you can download apps onto. Alot of the top of the range ones won't let you. That particular one was Xtrons and has worked flawlessly the last three years.

I am running these original widetrack struts with Koni adjustable inserts,I got them off 2pot on here, currently have Prodrive springs, roughly 20mm lower than standard,car,..I can 100% vouch for this set up,-ride quality is night and day, compared to the BCs that we’re on previously,I had the BCs from new and were on for 5/6 years so I did give them a good chance..The new spring/shock set up is obviously nowhere as stiff as coilovers, but for fast road use perfect imo,.BCs far too harsh...for what I want anyway,,..hope this helps

is there an easy way of buying a "kit" to swap over ? Not wanting to bollocks about bits and Bob's from different places.

Speak to 2pot, I'm sure he can sort you out as he has access to springs, bump stops etc which will all be matched to work with what you want from the car. I've got bump stops from him with Koni inserts on non-widetrack struts (2003 WRX) with RB320 rear springs and S05 front springs. It's incomparable to the BC BR 5/4 setup I had on the car previously, or even the 5/5 setup I had for a bit before swapping out to the struts setup. Where the BC's had 4" total travel in the front and 5" in the back, these are 8" F/ 9" R which means rough roads are now taken under so much more control, at greater speed.

Tbh,when I was looking for mine, only off the shelf “kit” available was coilovers, maybe something more readily available now??,..I think the fact the “widetrack” was only produced for 05-07 my is a factor why there isn’t much available??,I may be wrong??

stupidly, yes. I had to get it rebuilt by a reputable specialist and it was "bulletproof" but I just had fear every time I drove it. Can't explain why, but I just lost the love for it. Just constantly worried something would go wrong and I'd have another big bill which made me not want it. I still think it was the best car I've owned though.
Sold it and bought a cheap Golf R32 that needed TLC and it just happened to coincide with lockdown so I really enjoyed tidying it up. It was sitting really clean . . . . .and I lost interest. Awesome sounding, quick enough, unbelievably high spec (dont think if I was buying a brand new car there would be anything it would have that the Golf didn't)
But ultimately, I only do 2k miles a year and with the DSG auto it just wasn't exciting enough. Started looking for a newage Impreza, a mate pointed me in the direction of a local one, got an offer on the Golf and it went last night. The Subaru will be collected by next weekend.
I dont even really need a car. Drive a van all week, mrs has a '17 Audi S3. But I think I need a toy to have, may aswell be a stupid big noisey turbo Subaru

That's the car bought and home.

I really need this coilovers suspension sorted. On the look out for decent off the shelf full kit so I can just buy and pay someone to fit.

The BCs are at their softest setting and still too hard. I'm thinking they're maybe goosed (one top mount 100% is) as I've the receipt and they're a good age.
Would buy new ones but are they worth the money ? I've had them on 2 previous cars but dont remember them being £850.
