Default KYB Suspension

I have an 05 blobeye WRX wagon, rear off side suspension was knocking so had a new pair of shocks fitted (they are KYB), the mechanic (who isn't a Subaru specialist) noticed they were different to the original ones, but said that it was because they were not original Subura but after market, so they should be OK, but they might be different.
Ride has now gone a bit spongy, not firm enough.
I'm guessing the springs need to be replaced also, as we cannot take the KYB shocks back.
Can anybody suggest what the best springs would be to return the car to somewhere near the original firmness, any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated?

Subaru used KYB, so they should be in effect original Subaru and should feel the same. Im not a mechanic but I have read a bit into this and my understanding is it should be a direct replacement so it sounds like they fitted the wrong ones.

I have KYB adjustable`s and PI springs and they are a nice setup.

Did you buy the shocks or someone else, as I`d check if they were for your specific model.

I'm on kyb and eibach springs, it is slightly unforgiving to say the least so you must have wrong struts.

As arnie says there are loads of different KYB struts. I have KYB ultra's and prodrive springs and the ride quality is excellent not to firm for a road car but there are loads of varients.

05 struts were inverted and considerably stiffer than the previous fitments. Sounds like the wrong part has been fitted based on your comments.

Who was it that supplied the shocks? If it was the fitter then they need to take it back as it sounds like they gave you the wrong ones. Saying it cant be taken back is nonsense, what he is saying is that it will cost him and doesnt want to but thats not your problem. If you supplied it then theres not much you can do.
