Default Blobeye sti to hatch sti?

Hi all,
ive got a blobeye sti dccd model and I’m thinking of selling it and buying a hatch sti, I haven’t been in one before and thought I would
have a ask on here to see what people’s opinions of them are and if most people think it would be a worthwhile upgrade to the blob.

thanks in advance 👍

The hatch is probably the best Impreza made, but I'm slightly biased 😊
I moved to one from a Classic wagon so a bigger step than you. The main attraction was the 5th door as I want a versatile road car. First impressions were more headroom, lights that work and STI power. Brakes are better, and there are more toys. Mechanically I've found few significant changes. As you can tell, I'm very pleased with mine.

I moved from 2005 widetrack sti blob to 2008 hatch sti 6 months ago.
Although i do miss the rally car feel of the blob and still miss the car as on a right road on the right day it was fantastic, the hatch is just a more complete car. It is also much faster car without a doubt and most of the hatch hate (apart from engine failures) is unjustified imo and comes from people who haven’t driven one properly. What i also like and what was a major factor for me is that the hatch flies nicely below the radar, nobody knows what it is etc and is much easier to live with. As mentioned above, much better brakes out of the box and modern lights. I do worry about the issues with 2.5 engines but will just cross that bridge if/when it happens.

it depends what you’re after at the end of the day, widetrack blob stis will continue to go up in value, hatches won’t imho, blobs are great fun for a quick short blast but i was always worried about leaving it in places, rust is always an issue on newage cars now, paintwork is extremely weak etc etc, hatch is more practical and as much fun when pushing it

I also went the other way. I had 2 classics then the hatch sti. Sold the hatch after 1 year and got a 2003 jdm blobeye sti v-limited. The hatch was a good car but missed the rawness and looks.

Jdm hatch for the win, preferably a spec C; a totally different car from the UK version. A fellow hatch spec C owner, who formerly owned a 450hp classic, told me it blew the modded classic away on a day out on the B roads.

but you can get a properly forged uk one for very good money now ,, and I prefer the torque of the 2.5 so I personally wouldn't bother with a JDM one now after owning a properly built one ,,,, the only problem with going back to the 2ltrs is they feel dead up to my 2.5 hatch lol

Having had a Hawk sti and FSTI I would say my UK hatch is better than both and I loved those cars. It has the boot space like the fozzy but is much quicker and has better toys etc than the hawk.

Admittedly I have had to have it forged but it is now far superior to the Hawk with PPP

Thanks for all the reply’s! There was more love for the hatch than I thought there was going to be,
I think I’m going to have to test drive one and see if I like it.

Definitely do this, I think you will be surprised, and if not then you have lost nothing
