Default Another newbie!

Hi folks I recently ended up with this old scooby on a deal

My first thought was wiegh it in but after driving it and giving it a general once over I thought actually it's not that bad. I know nothing of its history or even what model it is as I've had to apply for the v5 as it was missing.
Solid enough but someone has attempted to touch it up pretty much all over with a rattle can (epic fail) lol. I need a grill but other than that I'll just smoke it about for a bit.
Anyway nice to meet you

Try and get some engine bay and underside pics up.

There should be a metal plate near the front top mounts with some information on, if you get a pic of it up someone like Matty B should be able to tell you more about it.

Do be careful driving a car like this hard, make sure the brakes are up to the job and that it doesn't have any terrible rust issues.

Welcome to scoobynet. As said the 7 digit code starting GC8 will tell you what model it is

Not too sure on that tbh. Is that on the vin plate? I have a jdm import but I thought all the vin plate model codes started GC8 on the classic, maybe different on the uk or euro's?

JF1 is part of the VIN (17 digits for UK cars), Applied model code is 7 digits long whether it be UK or JDM and starts with GC8

At first glance it looks like your common or garden MY97 UK Turbo 2000

Aerial location
Air con (lack of)
Intercooler style
Single coil pack
Can't quite see if it has the ABS installed (front left of engine bay).
2pot mitsubushi front calipers
Single pot rears.
etc etc.

If its got the original ECU, its not very tunable, but if its standard (ignoring the bolt-on crap ) its can run on cheapo 95RON fuel

(awaits for the smartarse to try and explain why my old MY97 UK 2000 has run on 95RON for it entire life, and its still going )

The 7 digit "applied model" code found on the vehicle identification plate inside the engine bay is decoded in the following way.
1.Series code G=Impreza S=Forester B=Legacy etc.
2.Body type F=Wagon C=Sedan
3.Engine type 8=2.0L Turbo
4.Year code A=MY93 B=MY94 C=MY95&96 D=MY97 (facelift) E=MY98 F=MY99 G=MY00
5.Number of doors 2=2 door coupe 4=4 door saloon 5=5 door wagon/hatch
6.Model type 8=WRX 7=RA type E=Sti D=Sti Type R & RA
7.Transmission D=5 Speed Manual AWD P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

My UK Turbo has the K as well, the only info I can find for a model code with a K is that they are mostly in Australia. Maybe ours are parallel imports from when demand was high when new. Mines a 97 too.

if you're not learning something new everyday, then it's a day wasted!
Lesson learnt
Still love to know what the 'K' stands for

A number is for a JDM car
K I believe is for export cars having right hand drive.
L appears to be left hand drive
Y should be USDM
