for christs sake, when will it end.
my frigging luck. this morning went to wash the windscreen as the washer tank on the cinquecento wasnt working
lifted the wipers up, nearside went back down, but the drivers one didnt. tried fondling with it but it wouldnt budge. still worked from side to side.
anywho lost my temper and tugged on it a bit, and now its busted proper. nearisde wiper works fine, but the drivers one just sits there.
what have i broken? motor or just the arm or what. im sick of my bas*ard luck this last 7 days. fu*ks sake
anyone offer advice, please. god knows what im gonna do if it rains when im driving
andy
p.s. car is a 1996 p-plate cinquecento sporting 1108cc

Anyhow, the best thing to do is to trace the system back from the motor to work out which bit isn't working.
Attached to the motor will be the guide bar, make sure this is still moving freely to both wipers and that it isn't buckled or a linkage come loose on it.
If that's fine then the problem will probably lie in the section where the guide bar rotation is linked on the shaft of the wiper arm, you might have snapped it off depending on how much you tugged on it
Have you unbolted the wiper yet to see if the it's just the teeth on the wiper arm that have rounded off?
Shouldn't be a big fix, your local scrappy should have the parts for pretty cheap (this is general wiper stuff btw, never worked on one of them in particular but they're all much of muchness).

I once had a Astra GTE and went to London for the weekend, I was only 20 at the time and did not have any breakdown cover..
Anyhows on a rainy sunday evening in north london the wipers packed up, I made it to the M1 and the rain was getting heavier , my mate removed on of the blades and wiped it across the windscreen by leaning out of the sunroof.
oh the memories...

get the passenger side wiper to sweep over the drivers side, when the wipers are at rest, move the passenger wiper so it sits upwards, then when it moves it should go over the driver side. had to do this in an emergency when my wiper linkage packed in on my old rover 800.
temp of course...
sorry to here of your back luck of late m8...

Choccy, you do realise having defective windscreen washers (or no fluid) can entail a £60 fine and 3 points on your license!!!
Anyhoo, the wipers; yeah you prabably busted sommat. Fix It Again Tony

Just put the cinquecento in the dishwasher on rinse each time you get home, that should keep it nice and shiny!
Might be worth getting some RainX, its not a fix but its better then nothing.

little update...
took the car back to my mate today after he finished at 5.30.
managed to source the complete linkage from another cinq at a local scrappy (edleys for those who know the area) for £10
30 mins and the wipers are working fine again.
just need to sort the washer tank out now, which is just a persihed pipe. may even wash her tomorrow, see the results. never owned a black car...
