Are all forecourt diesel fuels the same, or are some better than others? Is there a diesel equivalent of Optimax?

Or should I just go to Tesco and buy 60 litres of vegetable oil

It's a dumb but serious question: I've never had to think about the stuff before ...

Just wondered what was best.

I was surprised to learn about vegetable oil on News at 10 last night.

Apparently the car runs fine if it's mixed with methanol, but it does corrode the engine.

It's also illegal if you avoid paying fuel duty on it !

During the fuel strikes in 2000 my next-door neighbour, who works in a big warehouse with loads of forklift trucks etc, had no problems -- he said they have 20,000 gallons of cherry diesel in tanks on site ...

- It was the NOS additive bit that I think was a joke !

I played around with all the different diesels and I always thought Esso was good

Cool

I rate Esso and Shell, and reckon that they're pretty good. Not quite as good as the Super Diesel you can get on the continent. Don't know whats in that stuff, but it rocks!

Flat, you can add NOS to a diesel engine so it wasn't a complete joke ...talk to Van Aaken about tuning diesels...

Veggie oil is not illegal:-

http://www.goatindustries.fsnet.co.uk/
http://www.goatindustries.fsnet.co.uk/alternativeroadfuels/goatfuels.html

(look at the 'customs & excise' bit)

As long as you pay fuel duty on it, it's perfectly legal.

Cheers
Mark
