Default Which couriers would you recommend and/or avoid?

Obvioulsy the pair from Peru but seriously, I'm looking for a courier to delivery parcels daily upto 2kg in the UK.

Need tracking/signature/insurance.

Don't want cheap and cheerful aka MyHermes as I'd like the parcels to actually there.

UKMail delivered some stuff for me today, talked in the garden for 30mins although he said he was pushed for time and then didn't want me to sign for it, even though I asked him. I guess it's regional, but overall I need a reliable service. Currently using the Royal Mail but at £12 a pop in some cases, it's getting a bit expensive.

Which couriers do you like?

Which do you hate?

Avoid yodel, how their drivers find their way out of the compound in the morning I've no idea......they're consistently hopeless, almost farcical.

DPD are probably the best for deliveries I've had, text in the morning advising an hour window for the delivery, and they've always managed within their advised time.

City Link - avoid like the plaque.

Liars, and I won't buy from someone who uses them anymore.

I may be in the minoroty on this, but I have used RM for over 10 years for all sorts of shapes/weights of parcels and had no problems with them at all.

I always use interparcel to book and always my Hermes ( not let me down yet ) or UPS ( always been good )

I've had nowt but bother with DHL, a they now yodel?? I've also had problems with yodel.

I've also had a right game on with parcel2go over items sent with DHL and never received, took months to get some of the money back and still got bumped for a small sum in the end.

Home Delivery Network has rebranded its entire business as Yodel as it looks to take on the Royal Mail in the parcel delivery sector.

Yodel van
The new name will be applied to both its business to business and consumer services.

The name change comes as the company looks to grab a larger slice of the parcel delivery market from rivals.

HDN acquired DHL’s domestic parcel division in January making it the second largest parcel delivery service in the UK with 17% of the market behind the Royal Mail on 30%.

Don't get me wrong RM do the job but it's expensive for medium sized tracked parcels with a value.

For eg, today I sent a shoe box size parcel which needed insurance upto £500. Cost £12 something.

I'm pretty sure a reasonable courier could do that for £7-8?

Will give DPD, UPS, TNT a call tomorrow and see what they can offer.

Yodel crap. Parcelforce expensive. Using Parcelmonkey, i've always liked Citylink. You get the same person (always a good sign) arrive when they say they will, you get a text offering delivery times, and the price is good.

Just tried Parcel Monkey, initial price looked ok, until I added £500 insurance cover, then it doubled the £7 cost to £14.

I think I'm going to need to speak to them direct and set up a deal rather than pay for one-off deliveries.

I'm happy to sign up for 12 months if the prices are competitive and they are reliable.

A lot of companies have their own insurance, rather than using that of the courier. Hence why companies can send stuff cheaper than joe public.

When i sent a quite expensive mountain bike via yodel,it mysteriously went missing for 10 days!

Only when i threatened legal action and intonated that it was "theft" instead of a missing parcel did it then amazingly turn up at the customers door..

IN DIFFERENT PACKAGING FROM WHICH I SENT IT !!!

DHL & DPD - especially DPD
On Tuesday afternoon a supplier who I purchased a laptop battery from gave them a laptop battery to delivery.

On Tuesday evening their tracking service reported that the package left hub one for hub two, but now it reports that "there is a problem with your package".
Lost it by any chance you f'ing *****?

Lol Mr yodel was push biking around on it till he **** him self,I used to work for Dhl in the warehouse every box or package we touched was scanned by a digital barcode reader so I don't see how thing go missing, scanned when off the lorry the scanned again when it's loaded into the van, then the van driver had to scan it then customer signed for, it's all digital??

In my opinion UPS are one of the best out there (if not the best), ive used them a lot in recent years including sending things to the USA, Europe and the UK. Ive also had a lot of things sent via UPS including delicate items and they have been first class, always on time and you can set your watch by our local driver which is handy as he always turns up at the same time with each delivery or collection. You can book them via parcel2go or on other similar sites. DPD are also very good, you get an email the night before telling you that your delivery will be arriving the next day and ive also had email alerts giving you a 1 hour window when the parcel will be delivered.

Ironically, after my comments above about yodel, I received an email this morning telling me yodel had a parcel to be delivered to my address - heart sink moment..

First thing this morning their tracking system had it out for delivery. Checked the status again @ 17:30 to find they tried to deliver the parcel @ 17:20 but left a calling card after a failed delivery. I've been in all afternoon and there's been no attempted delivery, nor have I received a calling card.

At least last time they managed to leave a calling card at the right address - albeit their inept local depot then decided to return it to the sender after only one failed delivery, rather than after 3 failed deliveries, which is how their service is meant to work - no one at yodel could explain why they'd done this.

Maybe 'yodel' will make its way into the dictionary as a phrase for sheer ineptitude in the same way 'google' is a common phrase for an web search.
