Question

Just went out at lunchtime and my Bell 990i has been sat in the screen in the sun and was baking.. when I started the car the Bell came on and beeped continually with the code "?LO CAL" on the screen.. I thought it was picking up some stray radar and interrputing it as a warning message (used in USA, like Crash ahead etc) anyway... I drove off and it stayed displaying it..
kept beeping too.. so I switched it off and back on a few times and nothing.
I then realised how hot it was so took it off the screen and let if cool off for 15minutes.. put it back and it worked fine???

Anyone experianced similar?

I shall check the manual when I get home at the weekend.

Okay cheers Adam...

Perhaps it was its way of gasping for cool air!

I shall try and remember not too leave it in the screen in the sun when parked up from now on.

I just hope I haven't bu99ered it.

A few times i have had my 990i on it's windscreen mount on a hot sunny day and it gave out wierd bleeping sounds, although no error (or other) messages on the LED.

Each time, the unit felt HOT, so i guess that the temperature was affecting the circuits.

This was whilst driving, so i don't think that there is much that you can do - even turning the air-con via the windscreen at full blast didn't help.

My 550 came up with the same error a couple of months ago
It's a software fault which can only be fixed by returning it to the factory - the importers replaced my 550 for a new one.
Speak to your supplier.

Exclamation

The instructions say not to leave them in the sun. Anything over 60 degrees celsius will harm them. A car with closed windows in the sun, from spring till autumn, can easily exceed 60deg celsius. For the summer I mount mine on the sun visor away from the sun.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Unhappy

Miles,

It could be a software fault but after it has cooled down now it works fine..

As I bought it second hand I am not sure how I stand regarding getting it fixed and stuff as I obviously don't have the original sales receipt, so hopefully it was just the heat.

Wrexy,

I could put it on my sunvisor but the cable would be right across my face, have to look into an extension for the cable.

Cheers

JGM

My 990 done the same after being sat in the dash top cubby hole on a hot day.

Sent it back for testing & no fault was found.

Still works ok.

I've seen this on my Bel Euro 550 as well. The only thing I've done is pull the plug and reset the unit and it seems to be fine. If it persists I might consider sending it back though.
