HAHA.

This is for freeride, thanks to the ctd system, nothing to do with commuting ,all out trail, climbing, and downhill.Problem is i was all set out on buying a canyon, then i came across the cannondale going for half the price, and thought that can't be ignored.
Actually i wouldn't mind going for the Scott Genius LT20,but don't want pay 4k.
Me and some mates are gonna do a coast to coast UK ride later in the year,or that's the plan, but he's been getting the off road miles in,while i've been pondering over which bike to get,and he has been saying to come down to his local trails on Cannock Chase in Staffordshire.Heard something about the monkey trail or something

Go for whichever has front and rear lockouts. Both are nice mind.

My choice would be the specialized fsr range full suspension or hard tail, it's by far the best bike I've ever owned and at a great price too, it all depends on what style of riding you like to do ;-)

A hard tail will be lighter and far easier to look after on a coast to coast ride.

Too many get FS bikes that don't need them.

As said, if your mostly on tarmac or smooth/hardpack .... get a hardtail!

If it is a performance mountain bike you actually need, then geometry and how it rides has a shed load to do with what your buying.

Id avoid the canyon, heard odd things! for the same money you have a choice of the best of the bunch at the moment.

Lapierre zesty or spicey, orange 5, yt wicked comp, nukeproof mega, stumpjumper fsr.

They're the ones to go for at the moment, my personal fav is the zesty or orange.

You'd get a half decent car for £2000, much easier

Carbon frame for an off road bike? I've read of quite a few posts about cracked frames after a period of ownership. Get a chromoly frame

Would be carbon frame all the way for me for an off-road bike if I could afford it. Lightweight and durable, exactly what you want. My mate has had his carbon for 6 years, ridden hard at least 4 times a week, and has never cracked!.....He's become attached to it and refuses to change it now haha!

I'd personally go for the Canondale out of those two. Plus the £250 you'd be saving over the Canyon you could spend on decent pedals and post (if you wanted to change)

I did the C2C last year on my Spicy, 160mm travel. I swore blind if I was to do a similar ride I'd do it on a hardtail. However, I've had my rear shocker set up for my weight by Mojo, been out on it today and now wouldn't hesitate to take it on a long ride!

I got a decent car, but know what you're saying.Anyhow this was suppose to make my choice easier not harder, its going to be used off road with very few tarmac miles..
Any savings will go on new riding gear/clothing . I'll have a look at some of the bikes suggested when I get home....

I'd go for the Canyon (and did myself). You can't buy a better spec for the money. Very positive reviews. I'd buy the same again, maybe consider a YT Industries Wicked 160 or similar.

Sod the Orange 5, it's like riding a tank.

Orange 5's have been around a while, but they ride REALLY frickin well! orange have been making single pivot bikes for sooooo long now.

Gaz .... tank like? .... have you ridden a newish 5?

Id go for the YT over the canyon. Same bargainous build specs but much better geometry.

I wouldnt have thought that such long travel bikes would be ideal for the C2C. Hard tail good for lightness but some of the route is quite rough so a shorter travel lighter full sus bike perhaps more suited?
But of the two you show the Dale definitely.
