Registrations - anyone know about acquiring an old one
If I wanted a specific registration - not cherished as such, but a previously issued plate how would I go about acquring it?
Does anyone here know?
It was originally issued on a mid 80s Fiesta that has a vehicle status of unlicensed on the DVLA datanase and has not been taxed since 2005. I suepect the vehicle is dead, but don't know for sure.
Reluctant to use once of these cherished plate services as they will no doubt lump a large profit into the equation.
Would be good if I could find the last registered owner and contact them I guess or am I wide of the mark?

The chances are like you say the car has been scrapped and for that reason the plate will no longer be available due to the car not being roadworthy and you can only transfer a plate with a current MOT and tax, It might be possible they will give you a bit more info but i doubt it if going off any of my conversations with the DVLA i have had in the past.

Didn't realise you could only transfer if the car was on the road in which case it looks like I'm out of luck.

Any way of finding out who owns a car using the reg. number? Is this the reg from your first car you're looking for? I wouldn't mind having mine either. In fact, I wouldn't mind having the whole car. I remember seeing it somewhere over the last year, but I can't remember where, and apparently it isn't insured at the mo.

Here is the relevant quote from the DVLA website;

Unfortunately we do not resurrect old registrations for sale, even though they may no longer be on vehicles. Should this situation change full details will appear on our website. However you may wish to email us with your contact details and we will advise you if there are any policy changes.

Yes I see-what a shame. Well you might just be able to find the present owner of the car and get the registration onto a retention certificate which is then made over to you. I think that path might work if the car has not been officially scrapped.
