Tragic story.

Good headline BBC. Much more accurate than "Man dies after being run over when his car is stolen."

I thought Murder was pre-meditated? The headline would suggest that the thieves went to the house with the intention of stealing the car to kill the poor guy.

Tabloid journalism if you ask me and very poor reporting of a truly tragic event.

A motor vehicle can be considered a weapon. If they stole the vehicle and then deliberately ran over the guy, that's murder. If they accidentally ran him over while trying to get away with the vehicle, that's man-slaughter.

Hardly News of the world standards of fabrication and certainly not "spin" by any stretch of the imagination

facts are man steals other mans car and runs him over with his own car

as has been already stated a vehicle can be quite correctly be considered to be a weapon it would probably come down to the scum bag claiming the owner ran out in front of him without warning and the police claiming he deliberatley ran him over to get away.

either way pretty sure dpp will be looking for murder if at all possible

That's the exact way I read it too.

I think that is a fair description, but in such a case, running over the poor bloke would not be all that likely to be completely accidental. Driving away with his car means that he is going to be likely to try and stop them and they should be prepared to be absolutely careful that they don't run him over. That should mean stopping if necessary.

Whatever the verdict, they should hang them out to dry if they catch them anyway.
