Which banks don't use a security device for online access?
HSBC have just advised me that I'll be moving to a credit card devices for secure access. I already have one with Barclays and the wife has one with Nationwide. We're always losing them, plus I like to log on at multiple locations (and don't want to constantly carry it around).
So which banks don't use a security device for online access?

On the one hand it is a pain but then I know my account is much more secure than just a login, password, PIN etc.
At least Barclays have the basic access thing so you don't need the card reader just to check your balance and suchlike.
Also missus is NatWest and also don't need the card reader to log in, just to make payments.

I'm the opposite and would welcome two factor authentication on everything I have.
PayPal do it in a nice way, they use SMS https://www.paypal-marketing.co.uk/s...ecurityKey.htm

I also hate these bloody code generator things. Got my HSBC one which I am not prepared to carry around so limits my access to my home now. Thanks crooks.
Luckily Santander have not yet got one so I can still access them on my phone and anywhere else I choose.

HSBC haven't mentioned anything to me yet.
HSBC Australia used this dongle device. I lost it once, took a while to get it replaced. The one I then had developed a fault where 2 or 3 of the digits don't display properly. You can figure out the digits maybe 50% of the time if you are careful. Major PITA and another thing to worry about.

NatWest (RBS I guess) do not have one for day-to-day banking, but you need one to set up a new payee. If they introduce one that is required to just login I will move banks. I already carry around an RSA Secur-ID to get access to my work email, I don't want another one. The whole point of online banking is that I can do it from anywhere ...

You can use the same one for all different banks I think. I used a Nationwide one for my Barclays account someone gave me at work and it was fine. Just go in every now and then and ask for another one cos you've lost it. We've got loads

Yep, I'm with HSBC. Got one of these stupid calculator things, set it up - lost it the next day. Haven't been able to get on internet banking since. Mrs has one for her account which won't work on mine
5 working days every time I lose one and I too refuse to carry it around everywhere - which means no more iPhone banking on the go which has actually saved me form charges in the past

I think some people are looking at this the wrong way, the banks are doing this to stop fraud! Why are you moaning? Not much of an ask from the banks to keep your money safe is it?
