Bloody HMRC getting the tax codes wrong...
Listened to a story on the radio a few weeks ago about HMRC getting the tax codes wrong for people over the last couple of years. Seems me and the wife have been caught by it. Both of us are standard employees on PAYE with no complications (no directorships, rental properties, large saving incomes etc).
Her overpayment of tax: £1041
My underpayment of tax: £3300!!
How can they get it so wrong that I've underpaid £3k in tax over the last couple of years
*******s!!
Will be investigating my options on Monday

Just managed to get mine sorted out. took about 2 months was nearly to the point of going to see an accountant. 2k overpaid.
08453000627 is the number that you'll need to call. I would give yourself about 2 hours for the call seeing that you'll be held in a queue for about 45minutes to an hour.
They have made a right royal mess of the tax codes for a lot of people this year some people at my work are getting threatened an adjusted tax code to recoup what the Tax office says they have underpaid, although the figures dont add up on their p60. Worth keeping an eye on and checking your p60 when it comes.

Letter from HMRC today informing me they owed me a few hundred. Nice surprise, but I agree, surely it can't be too difficult to get it approximately right in the first place
