Default Bloody HMRC getting the tax codes wrong...

Listened to a story on the radio a few weeks ago about HMRC getting the tax codes wrong for people over the last couple of years. Seems me and the wife have been caught by it. Both of us are standard employees on PAYE with no complications (no directorships, rental properties, large saving incomes etc).

Her overpayment of tax: £1041

My underpayment of tax: £3300!!

How can they get it so wrong that I've underpaid £3k in tax over the last couple of years

*******s!!

Will be investigating my options on Monday

Good luck.

Just managed to get mine sorted out. took about 2 months was nearly to the point of going to see an accountant. 2k overpaid.

08453000627 is the number that you'll need to call. I would give yourself about 2 hours for the call seeing that you'll be held in a queue for about 45minutes to an hour.

They have made a right royal mess of the tax codes for a lot of people this year some people at my work are getting threatened an adjusted tax code to recoup what the Tax office says they have underpaid, although the figures dont add up on their p60. Worth keeping an eye on and checking your p60 when it comes.

Try 0161 931 9070 to save you getting taxed again on your phone bill.

They should pay back those who have overpaid and waiver those who have underpaid. It should be up to them to get it right in the first place.

I finally got my tax rebate yesterday, or at least the letter stating how much they owe me.

Letter from HMRC today informing me they owed me a few hundred. Nice surprise, but I agree, surely it can't be too difficult to get it approximately right in the first place

I live in fear of them suddenly deciding that I owe them a significant sum. Can't afford that kind of a nasty shock!

0845 = local rate from anywhere 0161 the same if in Manchester, more expensive from elsewhere. (Calls from BT landline.)

We'll I got a rebate from them about a month ago
Then maybe 2 weeks later a letter to day that my tax code was being reduced because I hadn't paid enough tax.

However the **** does that work?
