NL MP attempted to claim back donation to the Batttle of Britian Memorial fund
Frank Cook claimed church donation at Battle of Britain memorial service on MPs' expenses - Telegraph
The amount in itself is not huge, a fiver however it would have been the
It does come back to the moral compass and the mindset of the MP's who feel that they have the right to cliam back money, volunteered at a collection as expences and the money is towards charity.
Once it has been exposed - he says he's sorry.
and the best bit the MP is
His claim for the donation is particularly embarrassing because he is an official supporter of the campaign to commemorate Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park, who commanded 11 Group Fighter Command, RAF, during the Battle of Britain.
He is also a former member of the Commons Defence Select Committee and his son Andrew is a serving soldier with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Erm, although I think the whole sorry mess is absolutly disgusting, I think before the band wagon is jumped on you should google Frank Cook and his record. Please note I hate Labour and all it stands for due to what they are doing to my transport business, but I actually think that this one did make a mistake this time, he has been almost squeaky clean for the last 28 yrs. I know that I have picked up personal reciepts and filed them for the business, and my bookeeper has always cleared her throat and handed them back.

The public have had enough of this ..... amazing how things are forgotten!!
An oversight
Duckhouses and Moats for the Tories .... charitable donations for Labour .... they are all at it!
The FEES Office head needs to be sacked .....
The one thing that strikes me is their complete lack of comprehension that they have done anything untoward.
The claiming for non-exisistent mortgages is pure fraud, nothing more, nothing less.

As has been said, it was all a nice easy way of giving them all a pay rise without the rest of us knowing. can't remember who said it but someone early on in this currilous affair said that they were advised to fill their boots when the system and the rules were instigated. Very nice, and no tax to pay too! Not even Capital Gains tax apparently.
I would expect that the Fees Office was expected to act accordingly and give as much latitude as possible.
Doesn't detract from the necessity for people in public office and those who control such things to act in a morally correct manner especially when their actions are associated with public money.

cant believe eveyones shocked at this, its the 'English way' to think about yourselves and f##K everyone else (including your loved ones). All of you would be doing the same think if put in the position mp's are in. You all blame 'foreigners' and immigrants as being the ones messing the country up! lol

Those who say things like you have are so often quoting the sort of behaviour that they are personally likely to get up to, and it is nothing to be proud about!

As for the original point of this thread, and someone saying what an unblemished record he has so don't be too hasty etc etc, well the *expense* claim was accompanied by a hand-written note " ... “Battle of Britain church service, Sunday 17.09.06. £5 contribution to offertory on behalf of Frank Cook MP.” ..." as donations don't rarely warrant a receipt. That indicates he's being a slimy toe-rag and should go immediately.
