I have been looking at the Carrera Kraken which is £350. looks good, has a good spec(hydraulic disc's, adjustable front suspension with remote lock-out, 27 spd)
But before i purchase on Monday is there anything else that is good, or has as good spec as the carrera?
Any advice welcome and appreciated.

I had the older model, wasnt too bad, frames seem well made and I upgraded bits but the drivetrain ended up knackered and wasnt worth repairing, I now have a Cannondale Bad Boy 700 and can swap the wheels off the MTB onto it if needs be for off road, I cant be bothered with MTB's really, unless doing some serious off road stuff, for two paths and bridalways a Hybrid is the way to go, couple of sets of tyres (road slicks, knoblies) and it will do everything fairly well, the Kraken on the road was slow and heavy, it was ok off but anything serious would show up its limitations, it didnt have enough ability off road to make the on road compromises worthwhile.
So Specialized Sirrus or Carrerra's own Subway for that kind of money are good bets.

Hmm - we had a city "hybrid" - a Spesh Globe - and it was so terrible that we returned it and got a full refund a month later. Replaced it with a Spesh Rockhopper Disk - about a million times better.
It does depend on what you do but even on a road I'd rather be on an MTB - albeit a decent, light hardtail with fast rolling tyres.

Eddscott what bike is that? I cannot make it out from the picture.
Does anybody know any good bike retailers? I have heard a few bad things about buying a bike from halfords?

If you were close enough you could have my Gary Fisher Mullet for £200
Not using it, hardly used and its got to go really
Cant use it for a few months anyway, so might upgrade when the time comes round.
