Default O2 Coverage

I have to say that O2's network is abysmal. I can pick up a signal with Vodafone (and even T-Mobile) in most places I visit, O2 is patchy at best and at worst simply doesn't work.

I have no idea why Apple chose them to distribute the iPhone.

That's odd, as in my experience O2 seems to have the best cover. It's actually very rare that I ever have a connection issue. Where are you?

According to the Government its all our fault. Too much CO2 blocking out the O2.

Don't worry we can tax our way out of this mess

Funnily enough we had to switch from O2 to Vodafone when we moved, that and T mobile are the only networks that work where we live.

I live in East Sussex (where the coverage is not very good), work in London (where it is okay) but the journey inbetween the coverage goes up and down where-as Vodafone just works...

i've never had a problem with O2 in the majarity of the places I visit, but some of the more remote places I visit in Cornwall, Mullion Cove for example have no reception. However they have no reception on any network!

I spent a happy 10 years working in radio network design (the person that plans the network) for 3 of the major telecoms companies and I can tell you that o2 is second best in the UK.

In terms of coverage Vodafone are the best, before anyone tries to tell me that their vodafone does not work in the pub toilets this data comes from monthly data analysis from an independent company, but we get (got) similar results when we did our own.

Dont work in that field now but when I was doing the data analysis I found that it was Vodafone first then O2 then 3 then Orange and TMobile in last place. It sometimes moved about a bit if there were network faults etc but over the course of say 12 months this is about how it pans out.

There is currently a big project underway for the big networks to start network sharing. This will help their 3G coverage and capacity no end.

No, one of these, which is why I'm so unhappy about the coverage!

Orange are the worst round here: always have been...even to this day its iffy 1 bar reception in the lounge. We live on the edge of an urban sprawl, so hardly out in the sticks either.

O2 have always been the best for reception, from way back in Cellnet days.

Local pub is a convienient "dead zone" for all networks (handy for a quiet pint), but O2 can just about scrape a bar or two if you have a decent phone (maybe thats the issue with the iPhone ).

Just goes to show its down to where you live.

Although 3G seems to be iffy on all networks round here...however in Spain, Vodafone has superb 3G..even out in the campo ...as thats the only way I can get decent internet out there (far far far cheaper than the HSDPA offered here - and its PAYG!).

02's coverage is great, its your iphone thats giving you crap reception When I had my iphone I struggled to get 1 bar but I put my sim back into my HTC phone and full signal

If you look online some forums are advising people to try and switch to 2g signal for a better reception. The iphone is a cracking toy but a crap phone
