CH4 rally coverage reaches a new low..

Jeez, as if thier coverage isn't poor enough already, they shorten todays coverage by half - the excuse being that too many stages were cancelled due to "crowd trouble".
Why don't they just show more footage from the stages that wern't cancelled? God knows they show little enough as it is.
Instead we are subjected to another half an hour of the dreadful Penny (I'm a rally driver) Malory's opinionated cr@p. "oo it pulls up beautifully" or "it's not too roly-poly". Nice to hear some informed insights into the world of motoring Please C4 get rid of her...
Thank god Clarkson is returning to Top Gear soon (apparently)

Was a bit sad really. are they only allowed to show 2mins from each stage or something They had colin in the studio why not ask him some more sensible questions?? that would fill it out a bit more.

Robin, must agree with you about that Penny one, ex Rally driver ? what on her Dad's farm ? She is rubbish. Get that bloke who used to be on Top Gear (Tony Mason, Works Escorts 1970's), he WAS an ex rally driver champion who knew what he was talking about. I have NEVER heard of Penny Mallory. Loiuse Aitkin-Walker - YES

I dont know it got "high" enough in the first place to get low. The coverage of the cars is abysml. When is the rallying on eurosport?

Ermmm no he wasn't - he made a career out of being the late, great, Roger Clark's nav on the '72 RAC. Best thing Top Gear ever did was to drop him....
Agree about Penny though, she did a few clubby events back talks as if she's Colin Mcrae or something...

Stop your whinging (are you are related to Burns?).
Press another button on the remote, nobody's forcing you to watch C4.
I couldn't be ar$ed with Driven, so I'm on here
Mike.

Glad someone beat me to starting this thread...
CH4 seem to find any excuse possible to cut short the hour long program, Corsica was cut short as well.
So much for the much vaunted 'WRC coverage has never been so good'.
There must be loads of in car footage that can be shown, as all the leading WRC cars now have cameras attached to them.
It would be nice to see something of the junior championship as well, and as the program has a British slant on it what of MG Rover who are taking part in this competition.
And no virtual spectator on tonights show (OK the competition) which is probably because they have no GPS data like those of use who signed up and paid for it.

I seem to remeber someone took her (Penny) for a spin in a group A car the other week (can't remember who) and she nearly passed out!! She was completely reduced to a blubbering wreck as if she had never been in a rally car before?!? I don't get it...

RE: Tony Mason
Not sure that he knows a great deal about modern rally cars.
While spectating on the Network Q in '99 I attended one of the stately home stages where he was providing the commentary on the PA system.
Each time a turbo charged car passed his comment was, blimey they shouldn't be making all those popping noises, that can't be right.
I'm sure that anti-lag systems were not new in '99.

Got to agree with you 2 m8 - think i covered most of it in my post also but: Thats the other reason the program is pish, Penny "oooh aaahh - it goes fast doesn't it " - I think shes won the lottery and bought channel 4 tv rights, certainly gets a lot of tv coverage related to ability, how else do you explain it?

I thought the best bit of Tony Mason's career was when he was doing a piece to camera (or whatever it's called) and he got swacked by a gaint snowball. Now *that* was entertaining rally coverage

It was Alister in the WRC Evo Lancer 7, she also did the same on driven when they were reviewing the Evo 6 Extreme.
After Penny had finished with the car they got Pentii Airikkala to drive it properly and it was pretty much the same, the commentary went something like 'Oh Pentii... On Pentii... On Pentii'.
Was more like a sex scene than an article on a car (Nice car though )

nigelward: previous to that was also when she drove a Focus WRC car on test track with big dips - the look on her face when taking a passenger over and got air born - could swear i could smell the shock from my living room. I t should go down as a tv classic of how alleged rally drivers brick them selves too, she alsomost let go and shut her eyes - LOL dont know which career she should stick too, as pants at both. Of course all IMVHO. Going down the pub now.

Okay, maybe Tony Mason is not the ideal replacement, maybe I just could relate to him 'cos he's a northern bloke. The point I was making was that C4 need to get rid of that useless bird (P. Mallory).
I am mis informed about T. Mason. I was TOLD he was an ex rally driver in works escorts by a bloke at work at the time he was on T-Gear. I stand corrected (and the bloke at work will now get a severe beating)

Yes I remember him co driving for Roger Clark, but a bloke at work insisted he also did drive works Escorts. Never mind, the point is Penny Mallory is cr@p amd should be ditched.
Anyone got any suggestions on who should replace her ?

CH4 announced the change as though they were doing us a big favour throwing another cr@p episode of Drivel at our tubes. Thank goodness for my DVD collection, watched AI instead.
Let's see how CH5 goes with 5th Gear (it can't be any worse - can it). In the meantime I'll watch Top Gear GTI with VBH and Steve Berry (he gave the WRX a sensible review a while back). I'll even put up with the repeats of Jason's ramblings.
Can't they move PM onto something like a knitting programme, tucked away on one of the really obscure satellite channels?
Ken
