best thing for a bad back?
ive done my back in lower left hand side . Been using deep heat for a few days and whilst it does offer temporary relief I can still feel it.
Any suggestions on the best thing to do to help it?
Cheers

Stretching exercises, along with some Ibuprofen gel rubbed into the effected area - it's an anti-inflammatory drug as well as a pain killer. Heat pad seemed to do some good last time I pulled mine as well
The exercises may seem painful at first but normally the best thing for a bad back is to try and get it mobile again. Also try to carry on as normal, don't go laying up in bed for hours as you can end up making it worse. A gentle stroll round the block building up to some longer walks will help.
Last time I pulled mine it was so bad I could barely walk the first few days, luckily the missus had some Co-Drydamol which helped nicely with the pain, think you can only get them on prescription normally. Spacey with a few beers

Generally rest, NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, some of which come in topical applications. If it persists more than a week without any improvement, or is particularly severe, see your GP.

I used to suffer really bad back pain for ages after being mown down by a rather large Alsatian dog. The only relief I found that worked was rest, a hot water bottle to the lower back and strong painkillers.
Strangely since I have started doing dead lifts and Roman chair exercises I have had no back problems for over 3 years now

struggled with it for years with it randomly twinging for no real reason and causing pain
when i got into weights a few years back i found it "fixed" my back problem out and have never suffered since, even nowadays when i am a portly, beer swilling, slob

I'd be careful taking advice about exercise and stretching. If it's a torn muscle than it might need a few days to recover. If it's not slowing getting better over the next week then go and see someone, especially if pain is going down the back of your leg/s. A hot bath/soak does wonders btw. dl
