Nasty bus accident (Bus vs skip)
About midday today, out for a walk with the dog, just turned off the main road, and heard a mighty thump. Thinking for a moment and almost not bothering to look, I decided to turn back anyway.
As I walked back onto the main road, from the side road road I noticed a skip at a rather awkward angle.
Thinking it had lust been moved by workman, I carried on, but only for a second.
Looking up the hill, it was suddenly apparent.
A single decker bus, for one reason or another had struck the skip.
Walking to the front of the bus.... what a mess.
Very frustrating moment for me, im usually the first to help with these things, but broken glass everywhere, and having the dog with me was a poor combination. So the best I could do was call 999.
Took a couple of pictures too, not of people etc, just the actual bus. Apologies if anyone thinks this is poor taste.
No apparent injured is the good news

Regarding the first pic, I didn't know Alan Smith (ex Arsenal and England striker) was working for London Transport now. Times must be hard I guess?

Women drivers !!
Lol sorry just had to get that one in.
Yeah if I could have got some clearer shots you can see the extent of the damage.
Not quite as bad as the one that hit the securicor lorry near where I work though, now THAT was a mess!
Only injury I saw was a woman falling from the emergency exit at the rear, thanks to the driver not helping getting people off.

lol na, was lucky though as there were builders bringing rubbish out to it. When I walked past the first time they were just getting ready to start loading.
There was another victim, an elderly gent who swerved to avoid it all, smashing into an island, and bending his wheel to pieces.
However this was about5-10 mins after the initial accident......

It's well known that fibreglass bodywork needs a really 'nasty' bump to damage it too. That bus must have been going at a fair walking pace.
Nasty.

lol I would guesstimate the speed @ 15-20mph, its the average up the hill there.
The skip was pretty visible, im guessing the driver mis-judged the slalom between the island before it and the skip.

Or trying to make a modern route-master... I wonder if a front entrance /exit is a better idea for the new ones. So the driver can observe people getting on an off, for safety of course

Sorry - I think I didn't make my point clear: without the (required?) cones / whatever there; will the bus company attempt to, or have grounds to sue for damages?
Mind you, as you say: common sense will show how clear it is... but then since when has common sense EVER made an appearance in a Court of Law?

With you on that one Kieran, I was trying to listen in on the convo but it was too noisy.
Personally, I would have to say driver error, if she could not have made the gap, should not have comitted to it.
Unless the skip suddenly moved of course

That is one of the most nasty accidents I have seen in a long time.... I hope the local hospital drafted in extra doctors.... there must of been a lot of casualties........ just joking

i know the route and company and blakey in the photo, these buses fall apart at the slightest knock, fibreglass is weak as paper, the thing is designed to crumple, seen accident damage like this done at 5 mph in the garages. also seen one go into a house and garage and loads with roofs taken off (rail replacement and they always seem to hit railway bridges).
not seen many where serious injury has occured and that includes the one that took out the corner of a house and the garage and the car in it.

Although spinning round will be argued as 'to little, to late'.
