Default Booze from France

Hi,

as you proabably worked out I have a large wedding to pay for and I believe I can legally purchase cheap booze from France as it's for a wedding party (I have proof etc.) ??

Question is where to go and is there any way I can find out prices for the obvious stuff like Bacardi, Bud bottles so I can compare to local places?

Cheers

The £ to the euro exchange rate is very poor at the moment, so the savings are nowhere near as good as they used to be. Some things now work out more expensive than the UK. The main exception is local french beer, which is still dirt cheap in comparison to the uk, but mainstream stuff is priced more or less the same.

Also where is the wedding? Is there any corkage to pay?

The other advantage of sourcing drink locally is that you should be able to get it on sale and return, so you can return unopened bottles. That will save you from ending up with 4 unopened bottle of gin that then sit around for years!

I usually go to Tesco in Cite Europe at the Chunnel terminal Tesco.com - The world's leading online grocery store and more and also to Franglais Wine which is just one junction down the motorway towards Boulogne Franglais Wine.com (I think they are re-doing their website). I buy 10 litre wine boxes from here. You also have many other choices in/around Calais, including Carrefour, Auchun, Sainsburys, Eastenders, Cais Wine & Beer, etc etc

Thanks for all the help guys!

There's no corkage to pay and it'll be the typical stuff you get at asian weddings:

Bacardi
Famous Grouse
Smirnoff Vodka

All 70cl's

Hoping there is some savings. We do have local sources where we can take the unopened cases back but thought there would be quite a bit of savings to be had?

cheers

I think that both Tescos and Majestic Wines have the prices for their Calais stores somewhere on their website, and I'd be surprised if Eastenders didn't as well. Edited to add Tescos is here Tesco.com - The world's leading online grocery store and more and majestic here Majestic Wine in France - Home and Eastenders Eastenders Beer and Wine cash and carry Calais France

However the £ has dropped in value compared to the Euro dramatically recently so the effect is going to be a dramatic increase in the sterling price of drink bought in France.

Might also be worth checking your local supermarket for prices.

The advantage of buying drink in France is that you can also have a nice lunch etc, but if the purpose is to save money you need to ensure you will save it!
