Default Sky HD

Anyone got it and whats it cost..already got Sky and pay around £20 a month for the basic family package.
Is there any alternative options to get HD cheaper than sky

Wait, if you're thinking of getting Sky HD; word is it's coming down by 50% in the not too distant future: £150 instead of £300.

HD is £10 extra a month on your sub. I'd hang fire for a bit as there are not that many HD channels at the moment. Even the few that are listed as HD don't have more that 50% of their output in HD (I would guess. The sports ones and Sky One HD being the worst culprits).

Cool

I haven't jumped to HD yet. From what I have read (and indeed confirmed by what I have seen and friends who have it) is that HD tellies produce poor (compared to non HD) pictures for SD. As 99% of TV is still, and will be, broadcast in SD, I didn't feel the need to spend a lot of money to worsen the majority of my viewing experience.

i dont think its the tele itself that will give the poor picture its the transmission quality that counts

A good TV shows the poor transmission quality.

I purchased a HD TV as I had to buy a new TV anyway so thought better of getting HD but im not paying another £10 per month on top of my sky bill for a couple of HD channels.

The picture on sky SD is OK but watching a movie from DVD is very impressive.

When its good its awesome, when its usual its (just) sky +. At the moment I regret it but films in HD are magnificent and Planet earth was some of the most beautiful pictures I have seen... (eg grains of sand blowing). Having said that if it halves in price (of the box) my second room will go HD as well! needs more available hd space. HD programmes use it up 12% of HD in one programme.
If I didnt have Sky+ I would get HD if I had Sky+ I would wait. (cc comments above). Subject to quality TV etc
