My first thought was it may be some sort of payback for the terrible jokes on the biscuit packets.
Although, that makes about as much sense as your idea, Crow.

I reckon the thief was looking for some food for his Polar Bear.

As a very remotely connected aside the state of Washington carried out a bird population survey and they attached tags to birds with a unique number on one side and the abreviated "Wash Biol Surv" on the other.
It is reported that one angry camper in a national park reported to the park rangers that he was being misled. He said that he had shot one of their crows and he followed the cooking instructions on the label but it tasted awful.
Now, I would so love to believe that this is a true story, I so hope someone reports back that they have evidence it happened.
However, I wonder how a penguin would respond to similar preparation?

The question is this: given the chance would a polar bear eat a penguin? Lets be honest, given the chance a polar bear would eat something from a fast food burger emphorium so I'd say the penguin would slip down nicely.
