Default Bloody natwest. . .

I ring up as they've not sent me my new service card (intentionally?).

After dealing with the missing card chap I speak to says:

"I've a note on my file, it is important I speak to a different service assisistant"

> I say OK fair enough. and get put through.

It turns out it was a sales pitch, Mortage, loans, ovedraft, "gold card" the works - all in the discuise of making it look like they want to offer me the best service possible.

1/2 way through his speel I say:
"this is a blatent sales pitch, do you have anything important to discuss, or do we need to end this conversation."

> Phone get's put down.

Are they supposed to withhold your card so they can put you into that situation with a sales monkey?

They try to give me the sales pitch whenever I pay a large cheque into my account. You see them clock the amount and then "would you like to see one of our finanical advisors?".

"Just pay the cheque in please! "

Bit of an update . . . after requesting my card two more times - once through their "lost & stolen" department, I finally get put through to the "top level" customer service department.

It turns out, back in 2003 one of my bank statements was returned by the postoffice - and there was a flag on my account not to send anything by post.

Why the hell the muppets didn't pick this up on any of my prior calls i don't know.

Switching to 1st direct - as they were the only "internet bank" not to greet me with a computerised phone sorting system.

As they say on the ad's - 'there is another way' - just not Nat West.

I had a Nat West account started in my local branch in '86. If i had a problem i called and spoke to or went and saw the manager and things got sorted. He was spot on and helpful.
When i needed it he sorted a bridging loan when i was trying to sell my RS 2 MK2 and get a Manta GTE which allowed me to buy at a great price (took 3 months to shift the RS). I was 21 and newish to the bank and a recent job so things not stacking up in my favour but he did it anyway. I am sure these days the computer would just say no!

They shut the branch in the early 90's and moved me elsewhere - never the same level of service since. Just a compter telling them what to do re accounts.

Sadly I think all banks are pretty much of a muchness these days.

Yes I agree, a necessary evil.

But when one is causing you so much grief - over what was a simple task

That tone isn't allowed on here!! You will make the vulnerable feel worthless.
Hope you don't mind but I've edited it for a wider audience.

its the same for any bank. Ive never had a problem with natwest in 10 years. Any big bank with loads of departments can cause a breakdown in communication resulted in sometimes kak service. Dont worry about it, rather than make the effort of moving accounts.

wasn't much effort really.

15 minute phone conversation

They will mirror my account setup with NatW -even down to the overdraft / credit card limits CC statement dates etc etc. They will notify suppliers and transfer all direct debits and standing orders. Really painless.

I've been with Natwest since 1985 and they definitely went through a rocky patch in the early 90's when they centralised everything. I find them excellent - always friendly and jolly helpful and efficient. Had a nightmare with RBS (don't get me started! )

Any custmer service you get from any organisation is only as good as the person on the end of the phone - it's only when the **** hits the fan you find out how good they really are and Natest haven't let me down once.

A Natwest Premier account personal manager is what's required (or any banks equivalent) to avoid being a number.
