Default Good place to commute to the city from??

Hi All

I have a "maybe" on a job - but its just off Bank in the city. I live about an hour from Waterloo and the moment and ideally Id like to be nearer........

Can anyone suggest good / nice towns/ places to live that are easy to get into Waterloo from??(and tell me how many mins it takes) I dont really want to do the "london thing" so not looking to live in London persay. Prefer south south east.

thanks

I'd have to say Surbiton. A quick train from Surbiton to Waterloo is about 20 minutes (with about 8-10 trains an hour during the busy periods)

Wimbledon or Clapham are a little closer on the same line, but I'd rather live in Surbiton (hang on, in fact I do!)

Surbiton has a good high street and Kingston is a walk away, good resturants, good shopping, reasonably low crime rate, good schools, etc.

+1 for Surbiton

Maybe Purley or Coulsdon , but S/SE trains tend to go to Victoria or London Bridge, not Waterloo.

Godalming/Guildford or is that a bit far out?

Loads of trains but around 45 mins. 38 mins is quickest I could find (from Guildford) but you do have real countryside out of town.

If you don't want to live in the never-ending housing estate that is Surbiton there is always Norbiton or Kingston. About a 30min train to Waterloo station.

Depends where in Surbiton.

I believe you are thinking of the the suburban hell that is Berrylands! But I live on a lovely tree lined avenue in Surbiton

Depending on where in Kingston, it's a long walk to either Kingston or Surbiton Station. (Kingston has a slower link to Waterloo) Places like Villiers Road are pretty close to the sewage works, so watch which way the wind blows when you are having a barbecue!

Personally I wouldn't live on Villiers Road (again), I'm not a fan of Norbiton or Berrylands. I wouldn't live too close to the station in Surbiton either.

If you need advice about the area, and which roads I would suggest, please let me know

Depends whether you want a flat, house, etc.

1 bed flats from £170k, 2 bed flats from £200k, 3 bed semis from £250, 4 be semis from £300k, 4 bed detached from £350k.

www.findaproperty.co.uk might help.

Not 100% sure about this but I have some friends who live in Basingstoke and I'm sure my mate said it's just over half an hour to Waterloo on the train. Don't quote me on that though! I've been there a few times and it's quite a nice town.

Fleet and Farnborough have relatively fast trains into Waterloo.

I think it's about 40 minutes on from Fleet (a few stops after Basingstoke), Elvetham Heath (in Fleet) has a bus service to the station. I know of a 4 bedroom detached house over looking the green with a big double garage sold for £315k recently, just to get an idea of what you can get for your money. Although it's a bit "Lego land" as it's a new development which I know puts some people off. Good access to the M3 and M4 as well.

Why does it have to be Waterloo (presume you'll get the Drain from there to Bank)? You could live somewhere where you can get the train in to Moorgate or Liverpool Street (or City Thameslink) and walk to Bank in 5-10 minutes.

Or any trainline that takes you into London Bridge, as it's only a 5-10 minute stroll from there and you avoid the underground.
