Mountain Bike Question...
I have a Dawes Kirk Revolution magnesium framed mtb that Ive owned for about 15yrs; I dont know if anyone is familiar with it? (most of them broke!)
Its a specified item on my home contents insurance, listed at £650 (not index-linked) as it has been for about 5 years. Considering the original purchase cost and the bikes quality, Id be very interested to hear peoples opinions about possible insurance replacements and their cost. Features are spartan compared to current bikes but the magnesium frame cost an absolute fortune when it was new, so a fit replacement would occupy a similar position in the current scheme of things.

Mines still in the hallway... Im trying to find the value of a suitable replacement for insurance purposes. Ive just spoken to Dawes, who manufactured this Bike for Kirk, and theyve suggested either an Edge Pro or an Edge Pro FS at between £850 and £950 list!
The nice man from the warranty department also said that I may have the only remaining magnesium framed 400 that hasnt broken: confirming that, even though Im 6' 3" and over 200Lbs, I ride like a big girl going to the shop.....

Because its listed on the schedule. Listed item values arent index-linked so they need to be reviewed every couple of years. The policy limit for non-specified cycles was £250, but thats just been raised to £500. I hadnt altered this for three years and I wanted to know if it was worth paying a considerable extra premium for what now amounts to an extra £150 worth of cover. Seeing as th ebike was undervalued it looks like I'll be raising the cover and keeping it on; but Id still be interested in anyones opinions, especially people who are familiar with the magnesium Revolution 400.

The Kirk frames fell to bits, and have a secondhand value of just about nil. Every component on the bike will either be utterly shagged or well past the use-by date.
That said, it's an insured item, and if they were looking to replace it with something decent the value would be c.£1k. I'd struggle to give you any recommendations at that level, but any good hardtail (Specialized Stumpjumper HT) will be around that price.
Edited to say: why on earth haven't you replaced it? I'd be worried that it would crack every time I rode it.

I found one of these frames at a local bike auction and got it for a tenner, i ended up giving it to a mate as payment for using his bike shop for my own repairs. I'd love to build a singlespeed commuter bike out of it but he won't sell me it. I think they look cool as f@ck. I remember he spoke to the importer and got his hands on an original rear dropout and front mech for it for nowt, it's still hanging up in his garage though...
