Yeah, I'm interested, it should be good for South Yorkshire too
And a railway line runs right past one edge, the airfield being about 6 miles from Doncaster station by rail, so a station there is not just a pipe dream in the future.
Unfortunately, the roads round thee are going to need some severe upgrading if the airport ever takes off (pun intended).
And not good news for North Lincolnshire residents: Humberside airport, about 15 miles from Scunny, and 30 from Finningley, was originally part-owned by the then Humberside County Council. When Humberside was abolished, another group (BAA?), offered to buy out the 4 new unitory authorities' shares.
All sold out, except North Lincs which kept it's share.
What price those shares when Finningley starts up?
And will our council taxes go up AGAIN to pay for that mistake?
Alcazar
BTW: I read somewhere that Finningley has the longest runway in the UK?

I nearly bought one of the senior officer's houses there, in 1997 I think. Well glad I didnt now even though they were SO cheap for what they were.

Funny, I spent about 2 hours driving up and down Hayfield lane (IIRC) adjacent to the airport site on Saturday afternoon, looking for a Skyline advertised on Autotrader. Couldn't find the forecourt nevermind the Skyline.
The roads there are in a ****-state! My poor Saxo was rattling my teeth out.

Longest runway is at Manston, Kent. And I'm not in favour of Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield airport. The region is well served by many airports all within 1 hour drive of the exisiting towns (humberside, leeds bradford, sheffield, east midlands). This is only going to take business away from the existing airports, as there isn't that much growth to be expected. What growth there is could be handled by the existing airports. You might get a few long haul charter flights into there, or a Low cost carrier might come in, but its doubtful, all will happen is that the regular Mediterrean charter flights will move there to save a few quid.

No its not the longest but it is one of the strongest, it would take the heaviest aircraft around.
I did my Vulcan training course there, and did an instructional tour there as well. I also did my last landing in the RAF there! Lot of memories there for sure.
