M11 Junction 8 Improvements
#1
Just come across this interesting anorak type site for the roadworks currently going on @ J8 of the M11.
http://www.m11stansted.org.uk
I read it because I go through it virtually every day of my life at the moment & I wanted to see what they're getting up to.
Now I'm not a Civil Engineer, I don't work for BAA or the Highways Agency or any other goverment body but
WTF AREN'T THEY MAKING A SLIP ROAD FROM THE M11 SOUTHBOUND TO THE AIRPORT RAMP
FFS
They're spending £36 million and only catering for people going to the airport from the south.
What a bunch of idiots.
Don't people come from "oop North" to Stansted to fly on their holidays? No-one comes down the A1, A14, M11 or other to get to Stansted from a northerly direction?
How short-sighted can "official bodies" be? In their own words, capacity and traffic at the airport is increasing, so they expect it all to come from the south?
I dare say "budgetry" considerations came into play, but surely its only another £1m or so NOW to sort that out & £shed-loads in the future
Wake up guys!

HAHAHA - the A120 bypass - it's been on the promise list since the early 1960's......
Puff, as you know, I am a daily Stansted airport user - there was only one rail tunnel/track built into the airport when the terminal opened in 1990 to save money - guess what, it is now pretty much at capacity and they will have to bore a second one at probably three times the cost it would have been to build it in the first place......
I love our integrated transport system....

How any one can be daft enough to make a motorway which is one on the main eastern link roads - 2 lanes in the first place beats me..
Look on the bright side, will be going fast enough to worry about the speed camers. Jen.

Far be it from me to criticise government policy (LOL), but I think they are saving money by only building London access slips becuase the believe the queuing is caused by drivers blocking the roundabout from the London side. Traffic entering Stansted from the North will only have to turn left at the roundabout and there's a nice 20 mile long section they can queue on! Of course the cunning plan doesn't allow for people leaving Stansted and wanting to go north blocking the roundabout.

Don't get me started on this one!!!
At the moment, I'm travelling from London to Norwich twice a week, and I've got "improvements" on M25, M25/M11, and M11 A120.
Drives me mad!!!!!!!!

Don't get you started?
LOL
We moved to Cambs just over 2 years ago and the week after we moved they started re-surfacing the M11 I think that apart from about 6 wks total, they have had roadworks in some form or other on the whole stretch for the whole time
They've got to resurface from top to bottom, but I think the 3lane bit comes before the 2 lane, though WTF did they dig that bit up last year & reconcrete parts of it when they could've resurfaced the whole f'in lot in nice new tarmac
