Ask in local fish shops - they tend to either make their own or have someone local make for them.

We had one of ours (4ft x 2ft x 2ft) made that way.

He makes them in his house - I would imagine he could ship them almost anywhere in the UK for about 20 quid. He made me a feking giminormous one. (over a million cubic cm, which is probably about the size of a fridge tbth) for 80 quid.

are they glass or acrylic? how long does it take him to make them? etc?
sorry for all the questions. I am looking at maybe a 6ftx3ftx3ft and then maybe making the stand myself powering 2 external fiulters and one internal filter. Aldo what are the possiblities of me finding someone who can make a hood for this? lol
cheers FB

Oops, yes I had. Sorry!

The two I had in mind were:

For acrylic: Neptunes (ask for Chris) 01384 821100 (West Mids)

For Glass: Royal Discus (ask for Dominic) http://www.royaldiscus.co.uk/contactdetails.shtml

I bought my tank from Neptunes as I wanted acrylic, but I have heard the second guy is good for glass tanks.

TH nice to see you mate! I will be in touch soon

AJM thanx for the info I have enquired about a tank being made in 2 different sizes from royal discus. and will neptunes to see if it will be any better in acrylic.
Have seen a juwel tank i like but not sure i can justify paying £600 for a fish tank!
thanx for all the replys!

It will be quite a bit more expensive in acrylic. The reason I chose acrylic was because of the size of the tank, and the fact it would be on a homemade free-standing base. Acrylic is much stronger than glass and doesn't need a perfectly flat, totally rigid base. If I was having a built-in tank supported on brick/RSJ I would have gone glass, but I wanted something I could easily move in the future.

Advantages of Acrylic:-

Much stronger than glass
Lighter than glass (half the density)
More transparent than glass
Scratches can be polished out

Advantages of glass:-

Much cheaper
Much more resistant to scratching

I'm not sure what is going to be best for me
Glass like you say wouldnt get scratched as easy! I have a 2 year olf who is fascinated with fish! but acrylic like you also say is easier to move should you need to. I am moving down south in a month and will be private renting so think i will have to make a descision!
Have been in touch with the discus company and will contact neptune later on today
thanx for your help
Oh and by the way i spent ages reading all your threads that PG linked up last night nice looking tank though
