What software for Canon EOS 300D?
I recently got myself the above camera, and have taken a fair few pics using JPEG mode.
Assuming I'll be taking some (all?) in RAW mode in the future, what's the best program around at the moment that will allow me to muck around with both RAW and JPEG images?
I currently have PaintShop Pro v7 and got Adobe PhotoShop Elements 2.0 with the camera.
I can upgrade to aint Shop Pro 9 for £40, and Elements 3 is available for upgrade (assuming I can upgrade my version) at £ 52.88.
Or is there any other program I should be looking at?
regards,
greg

Greg,
I recently got an Eos 20D. I can download JPEGs with I-Photo, Photoshop or Canon EOS Viewer Utility and EOS Capture. However I think you need the Canon software to download the RAW images. You can muck about with them in photoshop etc, after converting them to TIFF or some other format.
So what software came with the camera?
I'll look at my camera and check downloading RAW files.

Elements 3.0 supports RAW.
In fact just about everything you will ever need is in Elements 3.0 but without the overhead (or costs) of Photoshop.
Cheers

Indeed I do ........... but, as my pictures are 'right first time' I don't need any post-processing
You kiddies are living in the world of 'enhancement and digitally altered images' - I come from a time where if you got a shot wrong, it cost you MONEY!!

Greg,
I have been using a Mac OSX platform and using USB 2.0 to connect the camera to the computer. To download RAW I have to use Canon EOS Viewer Utility. That software allows you to process the images off camera. i.e. change White Balance, Colour Temp.
Once the images are on the computer, I have to use Digital Photo Professional to open them. In Photoshop Elements 2.0 the file names xxx.CR2 are greyed out. Though I do see that Raw seems to be supported as it appears as an option in file types when saving as or opening a file. I haven't yet found a way to open them in photoshop.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can upgrade to Elements 3 from 2 if it was part of the Canon software bundle. If you buy a Canon DSLR in the States, you can get Photoshop CS for about $250
I'm still trying to get my head around using RAW files, as the range of adjustments in Canon EOS Viewer seems a bit limited. Perhaps I'll upgrade to Elements 3, it seems to be a massive improvement over 2 all round.

I'm just using the highest jpeg option atm, they seem plenty big enough for me! D:
I do any cropping etc in paintshop 7 Version 9 is a massive step from 7 and it's an utter, utter **** to use, personally I wouldn't bother, in fact I was given the option of 8 and 9 at work and passed them up

Unless you are just snapping, it's always best to use RAW. You can change loads of things in a RAW image that you cannot do in JPEG. Think of RAW as a digital negative, JPEG as a digital slide.
I don't know about the supplied Canon software, but ACR plugin for Photoshop CS is pretty good, as is Capture One. If you have a Nikon, Nikon Capture is the best RAW handler for NEF, then use Photoshop to alter the Tiffs.
