Cinema Ripoff

Cinema Ripoff
Ok so went to the cinema the other night. I always used to arrive about 10 mins after the advertised start time to avoid the trailers. This time decided to go on time as wanted to get decent seat.
I nearly walked out before the film even started. 20 mins in and the adverts and trailers finish There must have been at least 15 adverts....
What I can't understand is that you pay:
£6 for a ticket
£5 for a drink and packet of sweets (at least)
And the cinema pays their staff about £1.50 an hour.....
so why the hell should I have to sit through 15 minutes of commercials? Doesn't all mentioned above pay for everything and more some?
I could understand if the film was free....i'd gladly sit (or is that nap) through a series of adverts.....
Cineworld btw

I dont go to the cinema any more. If I wanted to share movies with noisy disrepectful strangers I'd invite chav's off the street to come and sit in my living room while I watch DVD's...
As for the adverts - valid point - its all a price you have to pay to see things on a big screen before it comes out on DVD...

from a selfish point of view, i like the adverts as i'm always late!
annoying on the rare occasion i am on-time though!
cineworld - thats the trouble with non designated (sp?) seats.
they are getting more expensive. best part of £7 near me now!
noisy people really wind me up. nearly had a fight with a bunch of chavs whilst watching 'colatoral' (which is great) as they waouldnt shut up then started using their phone! gave em the 'i'm going to **** you up' look!
they left....

I always go early in the morning because there are far less Chavs
Went this Saturday at 11.10am to watch Layer Cake at Enfield UCG
Only cost £3.20 each and me and the Missus were the ONLY people in the cinema
A very good private screening of a very good film
Phil

Vote with your feet son if you're not happy.
It's quite easy to understand. The price is pitched at a certain level which makes the business profitable. No-one is forcing you into cramming your mouth full of juice and sweets, nor forcing you into watch a film.
Compare it to 90 minutes of entertainment in any other public arena, and it'll look better value. Football, rugby, 5 a side, gym, swimming, snooker, paintball, motor-racing, etc etc etc.
If after all that, you still think £6 is too much, don't go. Simple eh

I use Ster century as can book and choose your seats online so can then turn up whenever you like and still get best seats in the cinema. In fact I drive an extra 10 miles just to go there as so much better than other local cinemas like Vue and Showcase.

I go to cineworld in Ilford nearly every Tuesday with my girlfriend. Its only £3.80 each and the popcorn is better than any other cinema popcorn ive ever eaten. However, I agree with you on the advert thing. I dont mind seeing some trailers for other new films as then I can decide what to see in the future, but all the other crap should wait til after the film, then if you want to watch it you can.

For christ's sake! Be grateful the film doesn't have advertisement breaks during it. Personally I find the ads give people enough time to settle down, open their sweets, and get their bloody moaning done before the movie starts.

What I find even more anoying than adverts at the cinema is the adverts you get on videos and dvd's. Sky tv is even worse, 5 minutes into a program and you have a flamin advert break. I am just glad I dont live in the states as the amount of tv adverts over there is terrible.

Went to cinema last week and the guy one seat over from me sniffed and wiggled his leg all the way throught. While the girl to my right spent the whole time texting people on her mobile!
And it was too loud! Or am I getting old?
LOL @ the "take your own sweets". Friend of ours makes her own popcorn for the kids to take with them. Tight or what?

Cinema's make a loss on the film, it costs so much to be able to screen it, they try and make up the deficit through the food sales which are very expensive and showing the ads.
Only go on Orange film Wednesdays now (cheers odeon!)

I haven't been to the cinema for over a year for the above reasons...I voted with my feet And even then I'd stop off at the 24hr One stop and buy some food there.
Plus I'm fed up with reading/seeing reviews about this film is excellent, a box office hit etc etc. Only to go and see it to find it's a load of rubbish.
Adverts don't bother me too much, I mentally switch off to them these days. I think we are getting to a stage where we are bombarded by adverts so much that we increasingly take less notice of them. Thus the requirement for more adverts and more advertising mediums.
The only adverts I can't switch off to are christmas/kids toys (because it's still flipping October, and I get pent up on child brainwashing tactics). And ringtone adverts - because they are 3 or 4 in sucession on the music channels Grrrr.

The adverts are a pain in the ****, but if you don't like it, don't go, or choose a cinema that lets you choose which seats to have when you pre-book.
Watching them on your home cinema system is NEVER gonna as good as seeing it on a big screen with big sound. Some films it doesn't make any difference, but imagine watching films like Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars etc. only on a small screen. It changes your whole viewpoint and feelings about a film.
As for the popcorn munchers, I find the volume so loud in modern cinemas that i can hear nothing but the film.
Also, you get to see some cracking adverts in the cinema that they cannot show on TV!
Geezer

Simple
buy a huge tv or projector (I have both), 1 big DTS/ THX sound system, spend £12 on us import DVD's. Buy a popcorn maker.
downside, 6 grand bill, neighbours hate you. NTSC films or wit ages for them on PAL.
Makes the cinema seem a good idea, new one round here has a bar and waitress service for £12 a ticket.

Personally I think adverts on cinema screens is fine - as someone mentioned earlier I find they can be quite usefull if you get there late or the queue for the food is longer than you thought it might be (my reasoning has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I support the system for one of the 2 companies that sell the advertising space )
At the end of the day advertising is a part of modern day life that is inescapable, no matter how annoying they can be

Ads are fine with me. The only problem we had last time was some idiots who kept shouting out "BOGIES" really loud during the movie.
I've since learned that this is a practice encouraged by those two ***** on Saturday Morning BBC.

I stopped going to a local mutliplex...
i got fed up of having to sit next to some curried up/ beer belching slob,
Why should i have to be subjected to that. fridays and saturdays ..
prhaps if i have a crap on the seat next to them they would know how i felt??
i like a drink, dont get me wrong, but i dont smell like a brewery drowned in
designer aftershave and curry spices..
cineworld.....
never had a problem there... its like having your own personal screening!!!

Local Warner Village has made the headlines of the local rag a few times as they've stopped people taking their own sweets and food into a showing. Ooo, the scandal!
Another vote for Orange Film Wednesday here too
