LOL!

Never underestimate swans and geese! I have been chased off a nature reserve island once by a flock of angry canada geese - nasty little buggers!

I have also seen a dominant male swan kill 2 ducklings for coming too close... so much for the ugly duckling

Swans are nasty pieces of work that will try to kill anything that comes within their territory.
Shoot them all I say, it will leave more room for those cute and tasty little ducks
Plus they fit in an oven easier

don't show fear.. if you pause or walk backwards they 'ave you!

Used to have 15odd geese on the farm I grew up on..

If you confidently walk up to them as if they are not there they panick.. the dog will naturally pause and sniff and the swan will take that as fear and come forward which will spook the dog possibly etc..

Is that a boxer?? If so trust a boxer to put it's nose in where it could get beat, but then boxers are brainless, thats why I love them so much

the surated beak can causes a fairly bad bruise and grazing to the ankle if you are stupid enough to panick and turn around.. as a couple of people used to find with the geese we had.. very good alarm system.. you knew as soon as someone came into the yard.

Who said they can break your leg?!? That's ridiculous.

The hissing is just a warning, if you actually grab one you will get a face full of beak and believe me, they hit very hard, certainly enough to cut you up, break your nose or blind you!

As for who'd win, the dog would, but it may lose an eye in the process!

Jack

Scooby went one better a few months ago She has a real 'thing' for ducks and especially swans! Came round the corner of the river and there is the worlds biggest swan sitting on the bank. Scooby goes nuts - makes a beeline for the swan ends up head butting the swan and both of them falling into the river

At this point I reach into the river and haul out the dog

Idiot dog - she never learns and she'll probably do it again. Great picture BTW.

That's hillarious! I'm waiting for him to fall in the canal, every day at least one foot slips in. His swimming ability will get tested soon anyhow as the next time he rolls in Fox **** I'll be throwing him in there.

My Dad always used to tell me about a Scottish Distillery that uses geese for guarding the booze.

A quick Google reveals : http://www.celticmalts.com/journal-g5.htm

Have you noticed the position of the dog in that photo - you recommend he keeps walking forwards??!

Reminds me of "When this government came to power, the country was on the edge of a precipice. Since then, we have taken great steps forward."
