Laser detectors/jamers
A mate of mine was asking me if I new anything about these, he's thinking about getting one origin b2, snooper or road angel. He was talking to a car security bloke who told him they are a waste of time as they will not give you enough of a warning to slow down before you get caught. He was on about a laser difuser which he said was better.
Any thoughts on this?

Hi,
I'm very interested in this post.
I've just decided to buy one of these and the homework I've done has lead me to look for the best deal on a Snooper S4 neo. I went for this as it combines GPS location of fixed sites & danger areas (schools etc) and has a 360 degree laser detecter that can pick up laser scatter up to 2 miles away - which should be plenty of warning time.
It's also compact and easily interchangable between cars.

Thats my understanding, if you pick up laser its just going to tell you that you have been nicked!
I have used a Valentine Radar/Laser detector for year, thing hardly ever goes off, mainly false alarms except for gatso's which are radar and then the range is really poor. Never picked up laser in about 100k of motoring. IMO you can't go too wrong with the Origin B2 or the Road Angel (dont know the Snooper), the GPS based systems with added laser/rader detector are about as good as it gets.

I’ve been using a Road angel for the past 12-18 months, in that time I think it’s probably paid for itself. Up until recently I’ve been towing a mate’s race car to and from circuits, and the with the GPS warnings for GASTSOs on unfamiliar roads, and areas with roadwork’s its been fantastic. And generally the ‘black spot’ warnings give you a good indication that the old bill may be sat round the corner.
However the laser attachment is virtually useless, the plod generally aim the laser at your number-plate so even with laser spread, you’ve no chance at short range of getting a alert, and even if you do, it just confirms that you’re caught.
I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a laser blocking system, but will have to do a bit more research into the best systems and the legal implications before I shell out several hundred quid on one.

I have a Road Angel. The GPS part of the system is faultless at locating gasto cameras but the laser part is almost useless. Its only ever given me one warning and that would have been too late. Its not that the system is no good. It’s just the laser is so small and there is very little scatter. Jammer is the only way to go for laser.

I use an origin b2 and it works fine, as for "laser" scatter - it's actually infrared and the "cone" extends in area the the further away you are so you may be able to detect it early.
