Question What do you think my chances are??

Hi guys,
I thought it would be a bit of a long shot but I've put my car up on e-bay and bugger me someone bid last night!!
My Car

You guys have got far more e-bay experience than me....
What do you rekon? Should I be getting excited??
Or could it still go wrong?
Do people really buy cars off e-bay?.....for this kind of money... its not a £50 job!!
I put it on beacuse it was a free listing day otherwise I would have stuck to autotrader. I'll be dead chuffed if it does sell.

Would you buy a car from e-bay???
Is this guy winding me up??

Thanks for your opinions
Cath

I think you should goto bed for a change

It seems strange that someone would want to part with £7k without even looking at it, but then I suppose there are some strange people around.

It's only a guess but he/she might be genuine. Although more likely a complete timewaster

Good luck anyhow - I'd be chuffed if I got £7k for that

lol ...oi oi what you trying to say

I'm not getting my hopes up probablly will be a time waster....
They haven't asked a single question!!
I would have thought they would have made some sort of contact before bidding.
Maybe my description just did it for them eh??
I can only hope
cross fingers!

Your description was, urm, very descriptive for sure I hope it isn't one of these people who bid and win on a car - and then turn up to pick holes in it and offer you a stupdily low price

Good luck, if this bidder doesn't pay you can ruin their 100% positive feedback.
Their FB is very good and they have allways paid.
Even though they only have 10 feedback.
Once again, Good Luck!

Congratulations, all the way around.
Give it a day to let them contact you.
Some time Monday would be a good time to send an invoice.
OR..
Email the buyer and ask them when they would like to complete the purchase, make arrangements to pickup the "item."
I sell quite a bit on Ebay, those items that are not shippable create a few problems but the final transaction is what counts.
The buyer has entered into a contract, with you, at 7,000, no reason they should try and change when they come to get the vehicle.
Another thing,
When you contact them, refer to some instriment of payment, Not personal check.
Preferably Cash.
Over here we have "Cashier Checks!"
Good luck with the transaction.

for the next time.....with a big object there is no harm in emailing the bidder before it ends and confirming they know what the score is.

T

ps- i invoice 5 secs after the biding ends- if hes spent 7K you can assume hes watching his end to see if he gets it- let him know your serious buy dealing with your end promt.

He's catching the train here on Saturday and paying by bankers draft.

m pretty safe with a bankers draft right???
You 'should' be. Ask him what bank and branch it is at. Then find out yourself the phone number of the bank and cross check the numbers on the draft he brings to you.

Remember some drafts are printed, some are hand written and signed.

Ebay is excellent for cars etc..

I sold my old BMW on Ebay for it's Buy it Now price. Chap caught the train down from Scotland and paid in cash and drove home. I did speak to him on the blower before hand and he was genuine.

I have also bought a Merc E Class for my Dad - went to Oxford to pick it up. Similar scenario - I emailed the guy, had a long chat and we agreed a price outside ebay. Picked it up and it was a minter. Dad is very happy.

On Saturday I sold my ZX6R motorbike on ebay...yet again, chap emails and asks to come and view it (he lived in north wales). He came last week, had a look and we agreed a price and he picked it up saturday just gone.

I think that if nothing else, it's a good advertisement, as people looking at cars/bikes are at least generally serious, as they are not going to bid and be bound legally for a bit of a laugh are they?

Found it quite simple really....none of your canvassers calling either!!

Bankers Drafts are not 100% mate sorry to say, speaking from someone elses experience they are easier than notes to forge and take a week to clear, be carefull.

The guy wants to buy the plate so thats sorted
Saves the hassle of sorting it out especially as I haven't got a car to put it onto.
Mr.Scoobypreza has got his own plate on the scooby.

Does it really take a week for bankers draft to clear???
I thought the whole point was that they had the money in their account.
I thought it was like a safe way of giving cash.
Oh gawd I hope I don't get fleeced !

Check the numbers on the bankers draft before you do the final signing over of the vehicle.
Be SURE and make that phone call !!!!
Whether it takes a week for it to clear or not.
Call in the numbers on the draft !!!

Good luck on the wee hours practice!!

Update....
Well the guy came for the car today.
He was a great guy and I'm sure he's going to look after my car.
He was really happy with it and phoned me to say what a lovely journey home he'd had driving it.
I was so sorry to see it go but I'm glad its going to a good home.
I can't actually believe I've sold my car on e-bay!!!
I've had a car since before I learned to drive .... its a funny feeling no having a car of my own any more.
Looking for insurance for me on the scoob now ..... ouch
Mr.Scoobys insurance comp wont insure me cos I'm under 30
Know what I'm going to be doing all day tomorrow!

If it's by draft, let him accompany you to the bank while you deposit it.

Why do we get so attached to these things??
I was gutted when I saw him drive away in it.
I know I wanted to sell it but it was horrible watching it go.
I think it feels worse because I haven't got a new car to get excited about.
Won't be getting anything til January prob when I go back to work.

Remind me next time I put something on e-bay not to have it ending around the Easter bank holiday! Not the best time for the poor guy to have to drive 230 miles and a sod of a time to be sorting out the bank.
Plonker!
