I was once driving my mums car when I had a bloke behind right up my chuff, flashing his lights and gesticulating excessively. I pulled over to find out what his problem was, I was highly irritated to say the least, as he went past he said the rear fogs were on and gave me a nice look of contempt. I said OK and switched them off.
As I've said, it was my mums car and after a quick search found the button and switched them off. His wanting to inform me was fair enough but he was going berserk and when I pulled over, I was already for a heated confrontation. I know I was in the wrong by not checking them but he was over the top.
If you are going to let someone know about their fogs, tyres, door open, etc, please do it in a calm manner as I found out, if done incorrectly it can cause road rage and I'm normally a calm guy.

Driving to work on a dual carriageway which was damp, notice the car in front (Fiat Punto) has virtually flat rear tyre. Crawling in traffic towards roundabout so I pull alongside (left hand lane), wind window down and tell (lady) driver that her tyre is nearly flat. (I guess we are talking <10psi here)
Her: "I don't know how to change it"
Me: "I don't mind giving you a hand"
Her: (Indicating 2 child passengers ) "But if I stop they'll be late for school"
Me: (Getting slightly annoyed) "If you crash and wipe someone out you might never make it to school."
Her: **!&%$* **!^&"$£ Drives round roundabout with back end fishtailing wildly, not a clue."
What do peeps think about informing others about flat tyres, defective brake lights etc. Is it helpful, or does it p155 you off? I reckon by the time the 5th person has flashed you that you would be embarrassed into repairing the fault.

I'd appreciate anyone telling me of flat tyre, no brake lights etc and I'd certainly tell others. If they ignore you then that's their problem, at least you tried.
If someone had let me know that brake lights had been on continuously in the other halfs MGF we could have got it fixed and wouldn't have susequently been stopped by the Police

Had that issue once. I was in my MR2 and following a learner driver whose OSR tyre was as flat as a pancake. I flashed my lights and they didn't acknoweledge, so I flashed again. I presume they thought I was just being impatient as the instructor just waved at me.
Followed them for a bit longer, flashed a couple more times and eventually they pulled over. The instructor leapt out with a face like thunder and I just pointed and said "You've got a flat tyre" before he could say anything.
He did thank me for letting him know, though.

I use the "one flash, then point" rule. If they don't get the message that something is amiss after that then I assume they don't want to be told and leave them alone.
Bearing in mind that a female driver on her own might feel intimidated by a male driver trying to attract her attention. I would hope that a woman in this position would have the car checked as soon as it was safe to do so (e.g. well lit petrol station).

Once had a guy flash me over to the hard shoulder of the motorway to tell me the rear door wasn't shut properly...it was locked and in no danger of flying open. I thought I was getting pulled over by an unmarked Police car.

Ok, I wouldn't mind being told, cause people trying to help is fine. But I would be very cautious of someone flashing their lights at me.
But I sure wouldn't try to warn anybody, there are just to many loonies out there!

Just ring the police and report their vehicle- if they decide to carry on using it and have a collision then they will have some explaining to do. Remember never be afraid to confront them politely as it really gets on their nerves. If possible get a photo of it (non-digital) then you'll really be able to give them the good news.

i agree with crush
had this d1ckhead last night with one headlight pointing straight in my rear view mirror, burning my fooking retinas.
so i gave him a quick flash of the rear fogs
then he flashed me up!!! eh????
so as i was going down the high street, i left my rear fogs on, in the traffic, hoping he'll get out and tell me they were on.
at which convienient juncture i could unashamedly hurl a barrage of abuse at him and the MOT failure he calls a car...
but alas he turned off!!!!
made me laugh though to see the interior of his car glowing bright red in my mirror!!! hahahahah

A 'van driver' recently flashed me pointing to my rear flat tyre on the works Citroen. Top bloke for being so helpful - and a van driver too!
:-)
Mike
BTW, I couldn't tell that the tyre was flat - no feedback from the tyres at all - as I was crawling along the Westway.

Probably flattened by a stinger in an earler Police chase, which she still knows nothing about even though 8 Police cars, a helipcopter and numerous outridders had flashing lights, sirens, and the headlights blazing away...............
Some people should not be messed with and a woman with 2 kids (no doubt screaming, fighting and with snot running down their cherub faces), menopausal and LATE for school is a person to avoid,,,,,,,,

I'd tell someone if they had a flat etc. But being a lady driver I'd be worried if someone was flashing me or whatever...... too many nutters out there, I'd check things out when I was in a safe location.

I saw a car driving onto the M62 from the M606 just the other day, in the rain ffs, at 70 mph in Lane 1..
It was TOTALLY flat, running on the rim... the driver was completely oblivious, traffic was extremely heavy, and I couldnt catch up before it was my exit.
Wonder if they binned it into the back of an artic?
