I don't think I'd find it too easy trying to explain to my son what these playmobil characters were doing! WTF are toy manufacturers playing at??? Isn't producing toy characters dressed up in NBC suits just a little over the top??? Do children need to know about the threat of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical weapons??
Fine Playmobil get suggestions but do they have to follow them? I think I will write in and suggest they do a pimp mobile, pimp and some hussies, perhaps a drug dealer one with his stash and some needles etc, or even perhaps an Al Quaeda one with a character with a rocket launcher and a plane... How real do they want to get?
I found it hilarious when I first saw it but in a sick kind of way, just because I thought it was over the top. But looking at how I would explain to my son what its about I don't find it quite so funny now!

Hi Bravo,
My kids have loads of Playmobil, but if that comes in my door, its going in the bin straight away.
Trying to explain that to my kids would scare the cr4p out of them.

You lot are comical! so what is wrong with a play person in a hazmat suit the firebrigade have whole teams of hazmat people and hazmat incident units who ever said it was to do with NBC. Grow up FFS.

i do- do playmobile do cops? if they do do you worry about explaing vice and narcotics to your kids?
do they do firemen? do you give a blow by blow of the WTC collapse to kids with those?
these are just little guys in suits used to clean up stuff!
T
ps- my kids loves his action-man nija.... perhaps i should explain the perils of mixing the shogun warrior with an army man- the interacial, cross culture timebomb thats waiting to happen!

A bit insensitive releasing them in the current climate IMO.
Guess your right though, there are plenty of other nasty toys about.
I had a bad enough time explaining to my daughter why the firemen couldn't get my mate out of his house when it burnt down. She went on about it for weeks, so I could really do without "Daddy what happens if theres a biochemical attack"

They're no worse than Pokemon or Tamagotchi or any of the other faddy sh!te that kids go for.
I wouldn't have a problem with my kids playing with a hazmat team. FFS, when I was a kid I used to regularly re-enact WWII with Action Man, and I'm probably not alone. Howd you think our mums felt ??

What a good reply by Wurzel - NOT. Why do you think I have to grow up? If you got nothing constructive to add SHUT UP!
Tiggs you are right but the other thing I was getting at is normally toys portray everyday stuff or cartoon/film characters etc. How often do kids see NBC suits or firemen clearing up chemical spillages for it to be a toy they will understand what it is? For example the fireman playmobil set will be just a fire engine and fireman, not a set where 2 firemen are pulling a burnt body out of a house etc. Just thought it was a bit twisted in producing a toy that brings to kids attention the serious concerns in society today, which perhaps they don't really need to know about.
I'm just questioning really why Playmobil think this character set makes an enjoyable toy when compared to all the other sets. Although one thing they have left out is a person melting/dieing from the chemical spillage out of that nasty looking drum
Just to add I'm obviously not the only one to wonder (and I am only wondering, not about to lodge an official complaint ) why they have produced it otherwise it wouldn't have been in the news as above.

Doesn't bother me. As Tiggs says, they're little guys in funky suits hoovering stuff up.
You seem to have made the assumption that all dangerous chemicals are nerve agents. There are plenty of chemical spills without terrorist activity, e.g. the one in Cambridge Science Park today.

(Glad I'm not near there -- doesn't hydrogen sulphide smell like bad eggs? )

Bravo two zero, nice username do you know what it means or did you hear it on a film once?
Also do you actually know what an NBC suit looks like or feels like to wear? how about an S10 respirator in a CS Chamber?
If not then how the **** can you comment, the green suits that those play people are wearing are civilian HAZMAT suits not NBC Suits so why do you have to explain anything to your kids?
And Andy no M8 I do not have kids and I am glad that you have seen a reasonable sense to the inital post here but it is only civilians that are brain washed by the so called media that have no clue what they are talking about that have reacted so violently to this post.

Wurzel are you only capable of throwing insults? What the hell has my username got to do with anything? I take it you are in the army based in Germany? So what! So that gives you authority to insult me does it and attempt to lecture me? You know nothing about me so leave the personal stuff out FFS.
It doesn't detract from the fact that I hardly think having your children play out a situation with a chemical leak whether it be a terrorist one or a civilian leak, whether its a HAZMAT suit or an NBC suit, is much fun or particularly entertaining. Its not something I personally think children should be encouraged to do as its whats going through their minds while playing out the situation that is worrying.
Thats purely my opinion Wurzel and i'm entitled to it so STOP bloody lecturing me. Go and find someone else to start a fight with!

I don't have kids so don't have the same concerns that perhaps some parents do. I'd agree it appears slightly insensitive to release these now but there's always the flip side; kids are going to see people in these suits on t.v. - if they've seen them as toys then perhaps they'll understand and not be frightened of them.
A parent wouldn't have to explain the various symptoms of nerve agent poisoning in all it's horror to his kids, just explain that they're people in protective suits.
Dunno.

i think they look cool don't have kids but have two nephews who i play with all the time and some of there toys r far worse than these, and they don't think of what they r playing with really it's just cool to get them to clean up the spill after one of there trucks has made a mess. all IMO ofcorse although it is bad timing i do agree with that.

Andi, bottom line for me is I just think its bad timing to bring out a toy like this thats all, because of all the stuff on the news. My son asks a hell of a lot of questions and its not always easy to give him an answer suitable for his age as being vague just makes him ask more questions
I was after peoples thoughts by my original post and I have got them, obviously I'm the only one who thinks its not fun and entertaining for kids to re-enact such a scenario with toys. Fair play.

Does anyone remember the Thunderbirds toys recently, which have three phrases activated by a push button?
Ever wondered why Thunderbird 5, the space station, is no longer available?
One of the phrases is: "There's a missile heading for New York".

It's a toy!!
There are loads of Hazchem accidents without terrorist involvement. End of story - no need to be so sensitive and melodramatic...
